View Full Version : My Laptop Vs the best MacBook Pro?
I think my laptop has fairly decent specs but theres a lot of room for improvement. With Macs having a reputation for being better I was wondering if it would be worth getting one. I don't know much about Macs but as far as I'm aware the MacBook Pro's are top of the range? I hope they are because I don't think I'd have the money for a higher spec Mac. So forget that it would be a different OS, I just want to know if I would notice the better specs of a MacBook Pro. I like to have loads of things running at the same time, including downloads/installing and updates. I am always opening programs and internet tabs while I have many other things running too. I'd expect to see better performance with online gaming/PC games as well. If there wouldn't be a noticeable difference I'll just keep this. I know I could find the specs of a MacBook Pro and compare them myself but I don't have a clue when it comes to computer specs. This should be absolutely everything about mine, please take everything into consideration. Thanks in advance :).

You could get a even more powerful ordinary laptop for cheaper than a macbook though, save on the few £100 of mac tax :p
Top end hardware costs money, but if you gonna spend it on a top end mac, may as well just buy a top end ordinary laptop - espesh if you aint bothered about the o/s :p

So your saying that with macs your paying for the brand + performance and with PC's your just paying for performance? That makes sense and I'm not bothered about the OS. What kind of ordinary laptops should I be looking at?

http://ebuyer.com is where i often look, but really depends on exactly how higher spec your after and what your willing to pay.
Apple tend to charge much the same as places like alien where, which is easly a 1/3 if not double the real price of alot of stuff, so without the brands you could probs get a well specs hp or somthing :p
To get a feel, this mesh for around a £1000 the Edge X960 (http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODCATEGORYVIEWPAGE&USG=APPLICATION&ENT=APPLICATION&KEY=71842) is roughly on par with the performance you'd get from a 2 grand macbook pro for example

The Edge X960 looks very reasonable, but would it be noticeably faster than my VAIO?

The MacBook sounds the poshest.

I dunno, I always thought "Sony VAIO" sounded kind of cool. I'd rather have a MacBook Pro though (who wouldn't?) but they are kind of costly. I'm gonna have to pay for this myself you see, it's not as if I can get my parents to buy it.

Really depends on exactly what its specs are and what you use it for :)
