View Full Version : Suggestions for the sports section

MOVE IF THIS IS NOT IN THE APPROPRIATE SECTION.

Right, I suggest for the sports&hobbies section to be broken up until two separate sections, obviously into a sports section, and a separate hobbies section, this would put these things straight, (1) their is hardly ANY threads in this section regarding none sporting hobbies, by splitting the two sections, you would be opening up another forum for people to discuss their hobbies, including stuff like joining bands, after school groups, ect. (2) when the odd occasional person comes in and posts say about dollhouse minaturists (E.G; CLICK HERE (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=575000&highlight=Dollhouse+Miniatures)) they get flamed by the "sporting" majority of the sports&'hobbies' section.

So my first suggestion is to break up the sports&hobbies section, and have on forum dedicated to sports, and one dedicated to hobbies, people may not agree with this suggestion, but it would open up other doors and make more users feel welcome to post about their none sporting hobbies.

My other suggestion, is that, if their was to be a break up of the "sports&hobbies" section into two separate forums, then inside the sports section their should be three subforums, (1) football banter, this could include banter between local teams, this would help stop arguments that do occur in this section, and would add a humorous and better atmosphere to the sports section. (2) Footballl RUMOURS, this could be from a range of rumours, e.g. when the stickied thread about "transfer rumours" is out of date, and then when the season starts, people could post about any rumours, from player rumours, transfer rumours, club take over rumours, and any other footballing rumours, ect. (3) another subforum could be something along the lines of a weekly football thread for when matches have taken place, where people posting about football that they have seen on tv/been to watch irl, and people could give their views of the match in the respected threads of which that users create about certain matches.

Having these 3 seperate subforums dedicated to football would clear up the normal subforum so that people could post about other sports, without it falling down the list and not being commented on because so many people are posting on footballing topics, this would invite people to discuss more freely about other sports.

This is just a suggestion, but if you agree with both of these suggestions, or if you disagree with them, and don't want these changes to be implemented, then please vote in my thread with your answer.

Also please leave your views and opinions here, no flaming, just constructive criticism/ideas.

Thanks!
MODS PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE SUGGESTIONS VOTED FOR/SUGGESTED IN THIS THREAD.

Moved by invincible (Forum Moderator) from Sports & Hobbies, it would get a better response in feedback.

Defo need a football banter section! Good idea.

StefanWolves
24-07-2009, 09:57 PM
Yeah Alex, I think it would reduce the amount of arguments in the Sports section, whatever happens with these suggestions, sports&hobbies needs to be changed to two separate sections, and we defo need a few football subforums, definitely football banter.

Maybe split it up a bit but couldn't we just have some stickied threads for stuff like banter. Would be nice if we could have something which tells people who they support. :)

Tbh I think the hobbies part could just be discounted and this could be discussed in Discuss Anything, as there are so few threads in there about non-sport hobbies.

I disagree with your other idea, we're trying to reduce the amount of forums so making 3 special forums for football is a bit OTT.

Generally threads made in that forum are about football & that is accepted, as that's the most popular sport on this forum.

Other sports do get threads too, such as F1 occasionally, cricket & i've seen a couple of rugby threads.

The lesserliked sports get stickied discussion threads, i.e the current MotoGP discussion thread which I'm about to post in, or The Ashes thread or the WWE thread.

StefanWolves

TBH yeah, but I meant SUBFORUMS in the SPORTS section for football, technology discussion have 4 sections, and that works perfectly over in that forum, so why not for the sports section?

I agree with the idea above for a sticky for football banter, and possibly a post your team sticky :)

It's fine as it is. We get stickied threads for important things, one of which is rumours. The banter comes down to the moderation really. As I said, I'd like to have something that shows who you support.

StefanWolves
24-07-2009, 10:04 PM
True, but football should have some subforums, lets face it, at the moment, other individual threads about different sports don't get a look in, they just go down the list.

I think we should have Football Banter, and Football rumours, and a Football news/discussions subforums, it would work.

Geraint
24-07-2009, 10:08 PM
rumours can only be put in one thread really. they only last the transfer window so that thread will be unstickied come september. banter can be posted in most threads and a banter forum isn't really necessary. we can discuss football in the rest of it. there's 5 stickied threads in there as it is, we don't really want to have a load and have to trawl down the page to see the latest thread. the football kits and transfers will be gone by september so maybe add a sticky in there.

and invincible, there used to be a post your team thread but it got old and everyone stopped used it. i was thinking more of something in the top right e.g. in the games forum your gamertag comes up.

StefanWolves
24-07-2009, 10:10 PM
Tbh look at the sports section rite now, on the first page, apart from the stickied threads? 90% of whats posted is about football, and football banter, these changes would improve the section greatly IMO, and it would tidy it up a lot, and also let threads about other sports get a bit of spotlight.

Skajo

Just a sports section please. Hobbies can hobby off to Discuss Anything.

I dont use the forums, but your post make sense. Splitting the two does make sense in my opinion, so as long as hobbies can get enough indepenant activty to be worth having, why not :)

StefanWolves
24-07-2009, 10:17 PM
Yeah totally agree, I just want this, and I also want to give other sports a chance to breathe in that sports section, 3 dedicated subforums for football, and the normal forum for other sports, this would give them a bit of spotlight.

It really doesn't. At a guess I'd say less than 20 threads a year. If that.

StefanWolves
24-07-2009, 10:20 PM
It would encourage more people that come into the sports forum to discuss other sports, to do so, I mean, if you go into a Technology thread and all the discussions are about Windows XP/Vista ect, you aren't going to want to gatecrash and post about Apples OSX/Linux ect are you? the technology and sports forum can be compared and I think the sports forum could be structured just like the technology forum.

Although I think your suggestions of three subforums would be perfect, I'm pretty sure that won't be implemented because three subforums are quite a bit, especially as they've been cutting down as of recent.

My suggestion:
Rename the forum to just "Sports". Hobbies can indeed go to "Discuss Anything".

Create one sub-forum called "Football" with various stickied threads, including:
- Post your football team
- Post transfer rumours
- Post 09-10 football kits

It's a reasonable suggestion and compromise IMO and would considerably sort the section out ;)

That would take a lot of work for a non-football dedicated forum.

Totally agree, the RS section also has four sections? and for what? it's not even popular anymore.

Something needs to be done though.

I post in there daily. I don't see anything wrong with the forum the way it is. It's one of the most active forums so when you think about it - it can't be all that bad because it's constantly posted in.

You kinda contradict yourself saying that hobbies should have it's own forum and then you say that nobody even posts about hobbies. I think that's what you were saying anyway. I have only read the original post and not the replies.

I don't think it should be changed. Maybe whack a few stickied threads in but no need for any drastic changes.

StefanWolves

It makes perfect sense to implement some of these changes.

Do not want this thread to die! these changes need to happen. :)

Come on, that's the most blatant bump I've seen on this forum in years! Talk about shameless! Threads in this section take about a week to get off the first page anyway, there wasn't any need for that ;)

Removing hobbies from the parent forum title and creating a football subforum (or even a football parent forum since it's so active) is much simpler than the mess of subforums you suggested imo. That solves all the problems you raised as well as keeping the number of forums down (ish :P).

You do realise suggestions can be looked at without any of the Management replying until we have decided on a decision. You can moan all you want how you want "change" but it won't make it come any quicker. Forum Management shall talk about this and see if any of the changes suggested needs to come into force. Think it like Obama, the people of America want change but it doesn't happen over night. ;)

We'll probably remove the hobbies but I see no point in seperating SOCCER because if the other sports are posted about so infrequently then the non-soccer forum would be dead.

I think simply removing Hobbies is all that needs to be done and Hobbies can be posted in DA.

I do believe Habbox is primarily a Habbo UK fansite and therefore you are requested to use FOOTBALL where appropriate - i.e where you have used SOCCER which does not exist.

You call handegg 'football' which it is not.

On topic - I'm glad this is done and a separate forum for FOOTBALL wouldn't be necessary.

Didn't your mother ever teach you you can't always get what you want? You have to compromise.

And lets face it, the people who have voted yes are the football fans, what about the other forum users.

I'd be happy at what nvrspk has suggested, if you want some football stickies, make the thread, get it popular & we'll see what we can do, the spam lot are easier to please!!!!!

StefanWolves

Go read the first page of the sports section, then come back to this thread.

That's exactly why I'm encouraging these changes to be made, if their was a football section then it would give chances for other sports to have their own forum/spotlight, and football it's own subforum.

Read the whole thread before trying to criticise me.

I do not like your tone to be honest. The whole forum can vote yes for changes and they still might not be done. Remember, it’s the one who runs the place who have the say for it to "go". Don't you realise that? I will give you an example. You can setup a petition with the whole country demanding lower fuel prices. But that doesn't mean Gordon Brown will cut the prices for us all. It just doesn't work like that.

If you remember ZERO (which I'm led to believe is also American) that I led a revolt and spelled all Organizers names with Zs. And if the forum populace is believed this is a dictatorship and I am American and I WANNA CALL IT FOOTBALL[/tantrum]

PS: Do you really call it handegg? I always thought it was called American football.

Sorry for slow/small replies, im on my phone.

We have listened, replied, and raised some valid points. I would prefer that you responded to those instead of hiding behind a 15 voter poll ;)

PS: On a side note, your record in Feedback is a whole three threads (yes I searched your old accounts too), two of them being sports thread and one being general moaning about management in the Sexuality Rule thread, so its a bit puzzling to me how you can suggest that we don't listen to our membership. We do, we work with them through discussion to move the forum forward in the best way possible. So before you crying far and wide of how insensitive management are to forum users please talk to the people who regularly post in feedback to see how often user feedback is taken aboard, and hop off your high horse.

I would have hoped you had learned something from the last few times around ;)

Never mind then, I was just trying to improve the section, especially when other sports don't really get a look in, most of the people who are opposed to it don't post in that section so they don't know what I'm talking about. XD

Btw I wasn't taking jibes at SMODs and MODs ect, they do a great job, but the other management really leave a lot to be desired, I don't need to post in this section frequently, it's just the feeling I get when people want certain things and how people talk about the management, hearsay, ect. in my opinion anyway, but meh, everyone has one.

I think the reply to "What team do you support" from Jin himself was that the postbit is already too cluttered.

If you're an avid user of the sports forums, I would suggest simply putting your team in your signature. After all, that's part of what a signature is there for ;)

Thanks for the updates, makes it better, but I really wish you would just trial the "football news & banter" subforums, this would help cut down people being temp banned for banter which gets misenterpreted.

And a "I support:" tag would be cool also...

Only a months trial or summin, but thanks for the updates so far anyway. :)
