Communism/Socialism is against religion, always has been in those states. It is illegal to practise religion in North Korea as that could provide a rival/give ideas to the people against the rule of Kim Jong Il, it is punishable by death.

Hardly surprising. I bet the woman was a missionary who was bringing "joy" to the people. But of course, like UnderTaker said, that'll give people ideas which their ruler won't like. When he dies, hopefully peace will come to that nation. They need it :/

Although I obviously agree to religious-freedom and condemn the nation of North Korea I believe this was a wasted life on their behalf.

It's ever so blatantly illegal, anyone in North Korea would know that including themselves, they probably thought they were doing Gods work but when 1/5 people are apparently government spies it's obvious they'd get caught and it's also obvious the punishment would be brutal. To me it's just as silly as committing suicide over MJs death.
