This is just a general nag.

In a typical show theres understandably there's a lot of pop music as thats a very popular genre nand I understand that.

However sometimes it does get a bit boring listening to the sammee music over and over again, I rarely hear say rock music on the radio. And I know this might sound silly but I never hear some old classics tht are really good and enjoyed by many.

Thanks x

There actually is a Recommended Song Thread in the Staff Part of Habboxlive.com. Maybe you could PM some songs to jess and she could add them to the list?

I do agree that sometimes it can get a bit samey, a lot of DJs do try and get some variety into their shows but it can be harder in the primetime slots because people send loads of requests and it's hard to ignore them for something a bit different.

If you tune in after 9pm or early in the morning there is probably more chance of loads of variety as there are less requests and more of the DJs input but there still should be a fair amount all throughout the day and like said above there is a reccomended song downloads thread that is updated fairly often with both new and old songs to give the DJs some ideas.

I haven't had much chance to tune in, in the daytime the past week or so but I will be this weekend and if it seems like there is too much of the same music then I will see if things can change a little.

This has been a problem historically, past radio managers, as well as Jess tried changing that. Eventually it ends up the same.

This is in due part to requests as often we can't ignore all requests, because listener satisfaction will go down. Though some people do try and throw in a bit of variety here and there.

Jess is right on the ball when talking about international times. During times when there are less of these requests off primetime, it is very easy to play variety. I do tune in them often and it is an amazing difference. I myself realise this often.

I personally try and mix and mash some songs that are a bit different. It is about finding balance, and particualrly that nowadays most shows are on 1 hour slots (via a rule) DJs tend to limit songs more.

In my view, it's a problem that will always be there. I guess you should request these oldies/ rock songs etc. Though I do agree that most DJs should have a fair amount of music because I'd die listening to 'Evacuate the Dancefloor' day and night. Anyway thats my 10 cents for this issue.

Yeah like I try to play more rock, but if I can't play the mainstream stuff, the listeners just drop, spesh if I play too much of it.
So it's like what to do with the Dj's, lose listeners, or play more variety.
I suppose there obviously is listeners who do like rock.

I mean tbh I might try to do a rock hour here and then or something, because when I dj late at night, which i tend to do, listeners seem to request alot of stuff that isn't mainstream.

I listen to some dj's and some of them do try to fit in loads of variety, like old songs with new songs

but yeah..kk, i go on too much LOL

I try Not to play so many requests. I listen to habbox all day, listening to La Roux, Lady Gaga, black eyed peas, Sean Kingston and owl city gets VERY boring. Il make sure my next show doesnt play the same old songs!

I totally understand where you're coming from here. I often feel conscious that I'm playing a song that might be considered to be over-played and it's certainly not a good thing.
I think the problem arises where you don't give listeners what they want, they will eventually stop listening to shows on HxL. A lot of people often request Ke$ha and the Black Eyed Peas (pet peeves right there) and it's usually 2-3 people asking for them each show.
Personally, I try to achieve some sort of balance by playing songs that are in the charts now as well as those that were in the charts 2-3+ years ago.
I think it would also be cool if DJs tried to introduce a new artist/song that they find in their shows. I'm sure people may well appreciate DJs making the effort to bring the listeners something different.
