Im stuck on what to get for christmas.
I gots a 800 pound limit (N)
I need a laptop for playing wow, sims and other games. (I don't ever have them on full graphics but would like to on new laptop)
I need it too be fast and not too big.

I really want a Macbook but it does look like alot of money, but i don't know if i can get a laptop (not apple) with the same stuff like graphics and stuff.

Help?
Mac or Other Laptop?
Thanks

First off, you'll get far better specs if you go for a laptop other than a Mac. MacBooks have appalling specifications for their price and you'll no doubt do much better going for a laptop with Windows.

Do you have any OS preferences though? Windows or Mac?

I really like the design of a mac its just so lush :P

I have macs in school and they have been growing on me but i do find it a bit irrating sometimes... but then windows just f's me off all the time lol. :D

Well I wouldn't buy anything for christmas right now, laptop prices are going down all the time so no doubt if you buy a £800 laptop now you could buy it at around £650 around christmas.

I'd just let the decision come down to the OS you want, but bare in mind you'll get better specs with Windows.

World of Warcraft will run fine on either but Sims 3 would run quite a bit better on Windows due to the better specs. As for other games, they might not be compatible with Mac.

I wasnt going to get it yet i just want to fix my mind on something then i can see how much money i have left after :)

But i do love a good design on my laptop but i could always go to dell and get a nice color from them :)

I was thinking about games problems and some programs hmm

I am set on windows atm lol ;D thanks.

I'm not taking either side because its all down to personal preference. But bare in mind that you can easily install Windows legally on a Mac so games that may not run on OSX you can still run on the Mac. You can of course install OSX on a PC but if you're only really using it for games then you have no need to.

I don't agree with this when it comes to Apple Notebooks, yes with desktops, but not so much with notebooks because actually, if you go to somewhere like Dell you'll get pretty much the same specs for the same price.

I would say if you like Mac OS X then get a decent spec MacBook, bootcamp Windows on it so you can play the Sims etc.. which is what I do at the moment. On the other hand if you're not going to get much use out of OS X then go for something like a Dell, which will be just as good, around the same price and you won't have to bother with dualbooting OS X and Windows.

Save up a bit longer and get an Alienware laptop at retail. You'll be happy... oh so happy.

You can get exactly the same spec of laptop for half the price? They just look better than normal laptops. Wow, I would choose performance over looks any day.

They look somewhat awful IN MY OPINION, and are worse than paying the premium for a Mac desktop!! :O! LOL

An Alienware is basically a Dell with claims that it's specced for awesome. Get a build from Cyberpower or something: http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/r05/ri05.asp

HotelUser: Windows Vista sucks! Windows XP is fab! Mac OS X is even better! Damn Microsoft!

I installed Windows Vista on my craptop which does not live upto the Vista specs and now I'm very upset it doesn't work very well, why is this?! It's very slow and always crashing for me, Windows XP used to work better than this. Anyway I prefer Mac because Windows is very insecure and always getting virus's because I download things like free_canadian_porn_virus.exe and I have no idea when it comes to security so that's why mac is better.

Now he doesn't have to say it ;)

Well dell make alienware so there hardly the best place for value for money :p
Though i would disagree with the statement, you can get the specs of a 2 grand macbook pro for a £1000 with a mesh. That makes the mesh half the price for the same spec and is a pretty huge difference in price. You gotta really want osx to justify that price gap :p

Very true, I have seen a sort of pattern with Apple, as it gets more expensive the price gap gets bigger.... and bigger.... between a Mac and PC which is just odd.

As much as I hate to be seen to support trolling... GOD DAMNNN that was good. +rep :D

I the problem with people is they don't understand how the premium tax works. Some products are marketed as high quality products that are designed to last forever and a person is supposed to enjoy using them. This is as opposed to cheap laptops/computers which are made out of cheaper parts and are designed to just be functional for a couple of years. The higher class products (Apple's, Alienware's etc) have the extra money slapped on them for the peace of mind that they're going to last, the bragging rights you'll have when your mates come round, the comparative enjoyment you'll get using it and maybe the extra features (fancy lights, extreme thinness etc).

That's the premium tax, get over it :D
