I've never heard of Telewest/NTL/Virgin ever complaing about illegal downloading, but you should purchase your music/TV/films anyway.

I would recommend you start using a paid service such as usenet as it reduces your chances of getting caught considerably. They only look out for P2P sharing like torrents at the moment.

Why pay when you can get it for free? And come on.. how likely is it that you get caught? :S

Stop downloading torrents? Hell no. Stop downloading software/music/videos illegally? If your isps hasseling you then probabaly.

Its a terrible misconception torrents are only used for piracy, everything from world of warcraft updates to linix distributions make use of them to propergate accross the web o.o

Stop downloading torrents? Hell no.

More like hell yes, encryption on torrents is useless because of the way torrents work, download speeds are usually ass slow because of 934082394820 people on DSL with upload speeds ranging from slow to OH CHRIST WHEN WILL THIS DOWNLOAD FINISH and every major entertainment company in the history of ever is on the torrent sites looking for illegal downloaders.

However if you go with usenet and pay a measly £10 a month you get the following:
*****in' fast downloads
Download massive files before they're even released anywhere near torrents (usually)
Encryption that works
No chance of your ISP catching you because they can't decrypt anything and companies can't monitor what you're downloading

Usenet 1, Torrents -239102312391823.

i use rapidshare, it gives me 1Mb/s and my internet is 10mbps so it's good. im with virgin and never got a download letter or warning etc i've downloaded quite a fair bit n all. only bit i miss with torrents and the likes is it's just one file, r/s is in parts usually but a download manager is good for that.

The only problem with that is the fact that you're paying money for it. The appeal of piracy for me is I don't have to pay anything :P I know the amount you pirate makes up for it but its just money that I'd rather not spend :)

Blisteringly fast downloads and pre-times within seconds of the time they appear on usenet, if not before they're on usenet via private trackers and all free ;).

You think private trackers don't have the major companies sniffing around them? ;)

Yeah, most (if not all) of the big ones do. But it's mainly the people who upload the torrents that they're after.

Why would i encrypt my torrent any more than you would a standard download over http? or care whos looking on through a torrents peers or worry about not having enough peers for a fast download??
The entire point of my post was the fact i use torrents for LEGAL reasons, linux distributions, opensource and free software etc. These things generally have a huge userbase hence a nice fast download, are totally legal meaning trying to encrypt or hide from peers in a torrent is totally useless to me?
I use torrents as they lesson the load on the server a similar http download would, i'm happy to do this as its free, i'm not going to pay a 10£ for that same privilege?
So i'd gain no advnatage from any of that unless my aim was simply to waste my money??

Not everyone use's torrents purely for illegal reasons...

Can someone write a guide on usenet if they have time? It sounds tempting but I can't work it out cos I'm thick and wikipedia isn't useful :P
