View Full Version : Fresh, Ready Meal, or Takeaway?

A few years ago I worked for Tesco and it was alarming how many people purchased ready meals. It's the height of laziness. I was brought up on fresh food every single day and even when I moved out I cooked and still cook fresh for my friends and I. So what do your parents/you do? Do you mainly eat fresh homemade meals, ready meals, or takeaways?

Vote in the poll and respond here please.

Parents cook a lot of fresh things but I have evening work so don't eat with them, generally have ready meals but if I can be bothered I'll cook something proper

I eat a load of readymeals because I work evenings. It's convenient, not lazy.

Misawa, what do you class as a fresh meal?

Something made from scratch. Not necessarily completely fresh, but not packaged.

"Convenience" is abused. People no longer bother to learn how to cook.

I can cook (and yes, I agree that "cooking" is not just opening up a pizza box and putting it in the oven) but I don't tend to due to basic laziness when I have no need to

I am perfectly capable of cooking a meal from scratch, I just choose not to for efficiency and convenience.

You trade convenience for your own health? :S

Oh it's all drivvle. My health is fine and it will continue to be. You're blowing everything out of proportion like all the nutrient-huggers do.

It's convenient, efficient and cheaper. Some people cannot afford to cook fresh for every meal.

Actually, cooking fresh is cheaper than buying ready meals for the average-sized family. And no, I'm not blowing anything out of proportion, it's actually factual that you're unhealthier than someone who doesn't eat junk every day.

My parents always cook me prepared meals. On the odd occasion we'll have a takeaway, usually when its been a very long day and we've been doing a lot and my parents literally are too tired to cook. Also I had a few ready meals when my parents ditched me last year to go round the caribbean n ting, however I cooked for myself usually.

This thread is about me though, not my family. So you expect me to cook a fresh meal at 11pm every day? No thanks. My health is fine. I'm not dying - I'm fine.

I like Fresh/Homemade meals the most. But if I'm staying on my own I'll usually buy ready made, and I can't cook to save my life [:

My work tends to mean I get in about 9.00pm so I don't really want to piss about cooking at that time I'll usually order a Chinese or pop in a ready meal (and that's about three days a week). Otherwise, it's fresh/homemade.

Still waiting for a reply from Misawa.

Do you cook homemade meals at 11pm? Re-heated homemade meals mostly taste awful so I don't have them.

Home-made generally. Now that I have my license I'm relying on takeaway a bit more simply because I have the choice lol.

I do the cooking in my house and when I/we go shopping I normally buy fresh but seeing as their is normally 7 of us I have to cook for its normally like half freshly made and half frozen. Like we might have fish and chips, ill make the fish, etc etc.

Rarely have takeaway, like I said, 7 of us so take away is too expensive so we might get pizza or something but ye :D mostly homemade.

Nearly always home-made but considering that I have some sort of eating disorder I only really eat four or five different foods, none of which require much work. Chips, quorn, pizza, pasta and jacket potatoes don't really require any effort at all.

Fresh/Homemade tbh.

I'd rather have that than the greasy fatty ready meals & take-aways anyday. All the rubbish you're putting in you, no thanks.
