View Full Version : Suggestion for large images?

I don't quite know what this is called, so I'll just explain it, surely some MODs ect will know what I'm talkin about.

I visit numerous forums, and whenever people post pics above a certain size it goes into a sort of spoiler thing like this:

http://www.istealer.co.uk/images/suggestions.png

It resizes the image to a set size (not sure on what size it is) ~ this is a great tweak that could be installed on our forum, as many people are now switching to smaller netbooks, 13" and lower, in some cases even down to 7" laptops (asus) - and I also own a netbook, and finding huge images on a page that are to big to fit on the screen are pretty annoying, especially if it's something important. If it is something not important and just spam, ect, it slows the web-browser speed down considerably IMO. (on netbooks). When you click on the strap above the image, it goes to the normal size of what the image was actually meant to be, in this case 921x606.

I feel this will improve user experience on habboxforum, as it will be less slower and easier for smaller netbooks to get around the forum and not seeing huge images when people post them.

Thoughts? :)

I know exactly what you mean and also think this may be worth considering.

Thanks! lots of forums have this and I have always thought it'd be good on HxF. :)

I would welcome it with open, lovable arms. It's used on many-a forum including EA's so it can't be a security risk :P

Thought you were gonna piss on me then and say "NAH THIS IS CRAP I DONT WANT IT!!"

Very good suggestion you have posted here. Would be very handy for the users if we do ever get it. :)

aslong as theres an option to disable the resize i wouldn't mind, but it would be bloody annoying if i had to click every image so see its size because it got resized.

Even on a normal laptop, I find huge images annoying. I hate it when they stretch the thread wider than normal :P. Sounds like a great idea :).

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! yeah it would be handy to have a disable feature to for users you use bigger screened desktop PCs. :)

I'd like to see this feature enabled on the forum, large images that stretch everything really annoy me.

Good idea, I hate it when you have to scroll to see the other half of an image and it makes everything look untidy.

Yay I'm impressed and happy that so many people think the same as I do, large pictures really do annoy me hugely! :(

I had a horrible feeling you were going to post that all images post only as links in spoilers (I'd hovered over the thread title and it looked that way :P) but yeah this could be a good idea. Dunno what the max size would be though, because here on my widescreen I can obviously see bigger images than I can on the small monitor at my dad's, and we can't really say "SOMEONE might have a 3" screen so that's the biggest a picture can be"

StefanWolves

Well if they are resized so they can fit on snuggly on a 10" laptop then I think that's good? but I also agree their should be something in user CP for people on wide screen desktop pcs/laptops so that they can disable it.

This is a very good suggestion, I think everyone is annoyed when it stretches the page.

It'd be nice if everyone could set their own paramaters as to what image size needs to be resized due to 7 inch monitors and such but not sure if that's doable.

We'll definitely have to find a way to get this done. Or we could just ask Jin to do it :eusa_whis

Aha, thanks nvrspk, if I get the seal of approval from you then I guess I've done al right! :P I'm sure Jin would be able to do this for us, with his wealth of knowledge! :D

Setting your own parameters might be a bit much but Jin could probably work out an option for it (almost like skins) with 3 or 4 settings to it, he's that sort of clever chap with the buttons and wires and things

Seems like a good idea. I don't tend to care about huge images taking up the whole screen :P It's what the scroll bar is for and right click > view image, but it is a problem for some so worth considering :P

it's resizing everything

Coding
29-07-2009, 07:53 PM
yea, does it have to have the bar on everything?

Jin

Fixed, resizing should now only apply to posts and albums.

Slight Problem

Not major, but yeh

If an oversized image is in a Spoiler bar, and you open the spoiler bar, it's resized (as normal) however, if you have in settings to enlarge on the same page (so it stretches forum table), and you click the enlarge button, it closes the spoiler.

Just thought I'd mention xD

Grats on getting your idea put into place, it doesn't happen so often. :P

That was below the belt! ;)

I have a suggestion for improving it, on other forums, when you click on the bar above the image to make it the size it originally was, it doesn't open up in a pop up window, it just goes to the normal size in the same window, in the forum... if you understand? I think this would make it slightly better and easier to use.

You can do that already. You go to User CP > Edit Options > The Image Resizer.
