View Full Version : WOAH!! PayPal...

I won't go into too much detail but recently a member of this forum purchased something from me via PayPal and then proceeded to make a claim against me and reversed the payment.
I was told by others that due to the nature of the transaction, I (the seller) would never win the dispute. They were initially correct as I was given a choice of options involving ways to pay the money back.
However I sent PayPal an email or message asking if there was any way I could appeal their decision and I just noticed an email I received which contains this:
£28.63 has previously been reversed from your account for this case. As the case has been appealed, this amount will be returned to your account in 3-5 days.
and I am actually able to withdraw it :).
Although I'm over the moon, I'm still a bit shocked that PayPal are so easily influenced. I could have been lieing for all they know?
As for the money, I got a 30 quid bank charge anyway for not having enough in my bank account to pay a direct debit due to not receiving this payment earlier when expected. I don't care though, that scammer knows who he is and I hope he sees this thread. As long as he doesn't have my money, I'm happy! :eusa_danc
Edited by Catzsy [Forum Super Moderator]: Thread closed as this thread has turned into spam e.g. requests for the name of a scammer via PM which is not allowed on Habbox Forum. Thanks

You just have to provide the correct data to PayPal and if they see it's legit information etc and a stronger case than the other person you have better chances of winning.

I ordered something from eBay once and when I got it it was slightly damaged so I complained. It was only a few scratches on one speaker, but they refunded me all of the money! I didn't even return the speakers!

Who is he, I'll sort him out for you! Pm me.
And ye, same here, i sold some "Virtual goods" to someone and i think he was using a stolen paypal and owner of that Paypal had a CC attached..
Once i sent him the virtual goods - Came up to £180, he reversed all the payments lol which left me really ******* off. Told paypal what happened and they said, because it's virtual goods, couldn't provide proof that i sold something, there was nothing that they could do.. Just got to be careful who you sell to, even claim and cancel, sending as a gift is no good.
Money Bookers is much more safer, Liberty Reserves also.

yeah but the details I provided are just what I say, they could be fact or fiction. It's the same both ways though I suppose, so how they make a decision I don't know.

Yeah btw this happened to me....
you haven't got away with anything yet.
When paypal took the money back this was because Paypal deemed that the transaction was suspicious, this is nothing to do with the buyer at all (as I thought it was and I was only told afterwards).
At any time the buyer could choose to claim their money back (and they will most likely win).
If your withdraw the money now and this happens then you will be left with a nasty negative balance and will begin to receive letters from a debt collector within 4 weeks if your balance is not returned to 0 pounds or higher.
Ok so here's the difference.:
Paypal reviewing the transaction: They will try to make sure that it was the actual account owner making the transaction looking in no detail at what transaction took place.
The buyer claiming the money back: Paypal will look closely at the transaction asking you for proof of postage of the product you were selling... dont have any? Amount will be taken from your account.
When Paypal gave me the money back I was thrilled and then when the claim was made by the buyer I had withdrew and spent it all and so I was puzzled as to why they were once again reviewing the transaction again, I didn't know untill they explained to me that the two reviews are completely different. Thankfully my loving parents bailed me out the amount... Still very bitter about paypal.
Oh and don't go around saying this person is a scammer as they most probably haven't taken any action into getting the money back as of yet and they may just leave the money for you. atm to me this seems like paypals problem and not the buyers. I would leave it a few weeks before you spend the money or accuse anyone of scamming.

Sigh, I wasn't as lucky with PayPal .. the buyer said I never mailed the product and reversed $200 on me. They didn't do a thing about it.

What.. so you were paid, then they reviewed the claim, then took the money away from you, then gave it back, then reviewed it again, then took the money again? :S
Wth.. so basically they keep going round in circles every time the other person claims? So if the other person claims again, I can just claim again.. again!! :P I don't see why the would give me the money back and allow me to withdraw it if they were still reviewing it.. surely they should hold the money themselves.
And they did try to scam me. You know the messages you send to each other in the resolution center, they were writing crap like I blocked him on MSN and was ignoring his phonecalls .

Shoot us a PM ;)
I don't think it's very wise selling virtual goods as it is, theres no proof for cases like these and actually, it is against the TOS of most online game, for e.g. Habbo, to sell their stuff.
