I'm gonna go ahead and say that this network card is an absolute waste of time, it will probably increase ping time with the latency between pci-e and the rest of the mobo :S

It wouldn't increase latency dan.... but I agree, it just won't be an improvement. No point having this over an internal NIC "/ Not enough to notice, anyway.

It wouldn't really be a difference anyway, as it passes through the network card then still has to pass through the cpu for anything to happen.

It's mostly used for lan games etc to speed up, If the LAN is using CAT6 cable then it will go upto 1000mbps lan speed, making latency 0.0000000**ms. lol

I also get 0 ping on LAN.

Obv you know nothing because its impossible to get 0 latency on a lan, it has to take some time to transfer data even if its 0.62ms etc.

Thats why every alienware desktop from dell has them installed?.

That doesn't really stand for much to me. Alienware can build nice systems but to me it just seems to be more about bragging rights than anything else. If you've got the money to spend on an overly-expensive-probably-not-so-worth-what-your-paying-for-it NIC, then go ahead. But it's not going to help you get more frags than an integrated option, especially if your playing over a LAN.

The theory behind it is good but in reality it doesn't do much.

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/478/5/

There is a small difference in ping and FPS but not noticeable.

No Alienware are like Macs, they are overpriced for what they are. Dell is the el cheapo division of the company and aren't so bad.

Dell is acceptable, alienware is not. I mean they seriously use 4850 cards and call themselves "for gamers", the max they offer on the ATI range is 4870x2, where are the dual 4890s? They run cooler than than the 4870 and give more power, wouldn't you think to use those?

They use cases that look horrendous, they have no expandability, they offer ridiculous hardware that simply will not be needed for a very very long time (if ever) and as 'droid said, they are highly overpriced for what you get.

All in all alienware is a company to avoid if you're serious about gaming.

As I said, there are two divisions of Dell, Dell, the sensible el cheapo bit, and then Alienware, the stupidly overpriced division.

alienware is like the nike to the computer world, its like you turn up to a lan, and some guy has a dell optiplex and some guy has a alienware full sp, alienware is gunna win the battle, and why the hell am i discussing this on a "Habbo" forum ^^.

No, it really isn't. Go buy the parts and build the PC your self for <1/2 the price and then get an Alienware with the same specs for say £3000, neither will win, infact, the custom built will win because you could quite easily buy at least another one, which if you hooked together would win hands down.

And why are you discussing this on a Habbo forum? WHY are you selling those cards in the Tech section on a Habbo forum? The tech section around here has some reasonably smart people, for e.g. Tomm, Jewish Bear, Stephen, Nick etc etc who aren't stupid enough to waste money on these cards.

Take your crap elsewhere :P (That sounded bad, but it wasn't meant to LOL)

The better gamer is going to win the battle, not the better computer.

I just have a monster plain black tower and a pretty cool bottle of water (just taken it out of the fridge, yo).

A dell optiplex is a business computer, not a gaming computer.

And here's a comparison for you:
The XPS 730x H2C (Dell) costs $3,858.
It comes with an i7 975, 300gb velociraptor with 2xGTX 295s

The alienware would cost just a little over it due to needing a 1200w psu according to their site (what a load of ass). Then you'd have to fork over even more getting a decent case so the XPS is slightly better value, and you don't get ridiculed at lan parties for being a baby and buying a silly alienware. Although you still might be chortled at for an XPS, I don't know.

The del optiplex isn't a buisness computer, its a personal computer aswell, But your saying the better gamer will win, Well thats aload of **, you don't want a crap gfx for a game like CSS where the detail matters, and you would want some specs that actually run the game.

What an odd thing to say... Alienware are a part of Dell, correct - they're not Dell though ;) If you hate Pepsi, do you avoid KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut? No :/ Dell are fine, but Alienware is over-priced junk which is way passed it's prime - in the past they were considered amazing, but they really are over-priced and lack any sort of justification for the pricing.

You seem to think computers cannot be built - you seem to believe they are manufactured... You do realise custom computers exist and are alive and well? Alienware put a hefty price tag for little to no reason, other than for bragging rights - what is inside is actually dirt cheap in comparison. Custom built PCs are what true gamers seem to be doing now-a-days. Infact, you could argue true gamers stay away from the Alienware crap. The idea is to get an elite gaming computer for a decent price, and that can only be done by custom building, or attacking a company made computer with a screwdriver and just upgrading parts to some extent. That's not saying company built computers (probably the wrong wording, too late to change it though) are bad, you're only paying for convience and maybe a decent warranty at the end of the day, but that's of course if you're not being charged like crazy, as you get with Alienware.

Its not all about the bloody specs of a pc.

Lets say you had 2 identical PC's and 2 different people playing CSS

1 is a gamer, 1 isnt. The gamer goes to LANs and the other one doesnt even know what one is.

Its obvious who would win, The gamer would. This proves that most of it - if not all is down to who is actully playing.

Uhh the better gamer will win, are you stupid or something?

The person who is better at playing the game will win the game

That has nothing to do with quality of the computer involved. I was whooping ass on C&C3 with an ass backwards frame rate until I got a GFX card (this was back when C&C3 just came out), then I continued whooping ass on C&C3, the graphics card didn't make me any better at all.

Since when did CSS need anything more than a crap GPU anyway?

I find it funny when some kid gets his parents to spend like £1500 on a gaming computer because he thinks it will make him some pro at gaming.

Average ping on a a lan is 5

Also, alienware only have them because it gives them an excuse to up the prices of their already extremely overhyped and overpriced computers.
