View Full Version : I thought hotels were intelligent...

I am currently on holiday on the lovely island of St.Lucia sitting in the hotel's internet cafe, NOT paying for internet. For some reason they assumed it would be a good idea to give me the task manager so that I could just close the internet cafe program. From there I went on to disable it from auto starting at login (Because for bizarre reasons they decided that I should have admin permissions).
When will this idiocy of hotels' end?
On a sidenote, I changed the desktop of one of the staff computers to something inappropriate... Surely they need to be locking them
p.s. Any bizarre characters are because of this stupid keyboard, and spellings too (Stupid spell check on ff set to US English and I am to lazy to change it)
They don't even use steady state mode to make changes temporary:

I feel sorry for you. Your on the island of St. Lucia and your on a computer, which is what you do on your normal dull day. Quite sad. Then, you go and change the hotels' wallpapers to "naughty" things, aren't you cool. You'd rather be doing that than sitting in the sun or really enjoying yourself. Dear oh dear, what are people coming to?

WHY?!!?! Get off the internet and have some fun! You're on holiday! Even I don't spend more than 5 mins on the internet (only in the UK, data plan anyways) when I'm on holiday! :P:P
But +REP if I can, I have been searching everywhere for the name of SteadyState for a few weeks now :P

I respect you being on a PC if it's raining, but if it's sunny please get up and go out. :)

I say, there are some grumpy little chipmunks among us!
The guy on holiday probably just logged on for 10 minutes, it's not fun to sit in the sun 24/7! I'd assume this because he hasn't replied yet, so there's no reason to call him sad or act as if he just mugged an old woman. Honestly, what are people coming to these days.
Have fun on holiday, they probably wouldn't notice the free internet and if they do just say it was like that... as for the picture, no need.
That crime in St.Lucia is punishable by death to everyone foreign or not
Nice to see you're spending your holiday in an internet cafe and messing with their computers, if they're decent enough to let you use the internet for free why are you ******* with their things? Moron.
are you not in Turkey lol

Lol they don't make the systems any more secure etc. because they trust people to do what they need to and not be immature and **** around with the system. But you are clearly to cool for that.

nahh not sheep, maybe due to the fact everyone has the same opinion you may need to take a hint from it ;)
The sad act has now ruined it for everyone else, I guarantee when they find out the computer setup has been tampered with the security will be increased and anyone using it from then on will be extremely limited to what they can use and browse.
Admittedly I would go on the internet abroad but only to check my emails and then off. You don't need to be downloading podcasts when you're in Saint Lucia, you have the almighty of podcasts when it comes to sunset in a place like that.
A holiday for an internet geek is to actually get away from the internet.

The only time I've been on the internet while not in England was when I was at Dublin airport for about 6 hours lol. Even then it was like 1€ per min (or w/e I don't remember) so I just had a look at my Facebook :P.

Why are you all moaning about him using the computer.
Its not like he can spend 100% of the time doing holiday stuff, I'm sure when your on holiday you spend some time watching TV or other non holiday type stuff... When I go to Jamaica I sure do lol besides it's nice to be able to keep in touch with what's going on round these parts while your away :D

I mostly come on between coming back from pool and restaurant for the evening and in the morning for a bit so I can acclimatise to the temperatures.
As to people saying it's sad, you don't need to be on hxf at all. You could go outside and go for a walk or w/e. So before you complain spend the next few hours outside doing something active. Infact to be truly meaningful you need to stay outside the entire time. I don't go on the internet at home because I have nothing else to do, I go on the internet because I enjoy what it has to offer. Why should holiday be any different, I'm not even spending more than an hour on.

To be fair if he was getting podcasts for his iPod, catching up on the news etc then fine, but coming on hxf? lol :P

The hotel room had internet in it, so in my own comfort I was quickly popping on to check the news etc ;) Isn't the same as going to an internet cafe ;)
I take it not many of you go on holiday then...
When I'm on holiday and it's the evening, It's the time when you've got out of the pool/back from where ever you have been and your getting ready to go out for a meal or use the hotel restaurant if that's what you do. I am a young lad so it obviously doesn't take me long to get ready, my mum and sister will usually still be getting ready and my dad will just be chilling in the room. That is the time when I'm like "K well this is boring" so I usually either go down to the lobby to hang around with friends (If I have met any people so far that is) or decide to go on the PC for 10-15 mins. While I'm on the PC does it make me sad to have a quick look at hxf and maybe post a few things? No it really actually doesn't. I will be using the PC for leisure and doing what I usually do on the PC because I enjoy it.
I bet the staff aren't really into computers and have just set up a basic pay to use computer. When they find out what has happened I'm sure they will start being more secure. :P

Ah man, next time I go on holiday, I'm gonna' find the nearest internet cafe and stay in there till' I run out of spending monies! :D
No.
Next time I go on holiday, I'm gonna' spend as much time as I can outside, checking out the local entertainment, and sunning it up.
Have fun. :)

Ah, yes it is, technically. Both objectives, of either going to an internet cafe or using the internet in your hotel room, is to use the internet. Internet cafe, internet in your room or internet in the swimming pool, same thing. So it's pretty hypocritical of you. Also, I believe that he's using the internet in an internet cafe situated in the hotel itself, hence the title - so it's not like he was wondering around looking for internet cafes.
