Ice is the only way short of a readily available, natural local anaesthetic. Of which I know none...try google.

Could you go and get it done by a professional? It could cause infections and
that would be bad. :(

I have pierced my own before, and it didnt get infected.
I have pierced six of my friends, none of them got infected.
I know how to clean all my equipment (i have the proper things) and after care i know all about.
to others: the ice behind my lip makes my teeth go crazy because i have senstive teeth and it goes down to my gums too and its just ARGH!! ;[

If you're sure you can do it safely, then go for it. I definitely respect that - I'm don't have the balls to pierce myself! I can give shots and stuff to humans and animals (I'm studying to be a vet) but I can't handle sticking needles or anything in myself, haha.
Anyway.. Ice is probably the only way you'll easily be able to numb it. Though I've actually read online that it's a bad idea to do that as it doesn't work too well for numbing and it can make your lip more difficult to pierce. The recommendations I found were to put a hot water compress on your lip as it makes it more malleable and thus easier to pierce. It's not going to do much by way of numbing, but well, it's going to be painful either way unless you get it professionally done with anesthetic.

Sucking on an icecube usually makes them numb, not that I've sucked many icecubes in my time.

That stuff is ridiculously expensive! 18$ USD for the tiniest bottle ever. I think it has 0.12 oz in it, I bought it once for kicks and used it up in like a week. Anyway, its probably a bad idea to use this since it doesn't numb you that much, plus it can't be that sanitary and you'd have to wipe it off and swab it with alcohol before being able to pierce. Which isn't worth the 18 bucks :P

I guess Ice is your last sort since you really wanted to do it on your own because professionals uses topical cream as anesthetics...

this. it costs like £20 to get it done properly. they don't even numb it then tbh. it doesnt even hurt so if you're going to be cheap just make sure the needle is sterialised first.

If you're wanting the area numbed then you don't know enough about piercing to do it yourself no matter how steady your hand is or how sterile your equipment is (lol@double entendre). There is a reason that any good piercing studio won't numb you for piercings and that is that it causes the healing process to become lengthier and therefore more open to having an accident of some sort interfering with the entire thing. If you're numbed when you get stabbed your body won't be making the appropriate responses until later and then it'll have to work out what's happened and all sorts.
