Hello

Came here, 'cause know alot of "experts" know about AMD, and I haven't a clue.
Anyways
My uncle (and I) have gone with intel on everyone of our computers, however, he wants to now move to AMD.

He had a look (something like the phenom black x4) and didn't have a clue what was good and what wasn't.
Now, what he wants is a Quad Core and a mobo to go with it. (Not Intel).

Anyone help me out/advice here?

Many Thanks
Luke

AMD phenom quad black is a decent processor at a fraction of the cost of the equivalent intel chip.

Intels are generally regarded as superior due to their architecture (inside layout of the chip) being better designed. However these days there's not much difference between similarly rated amd and intel processors other than the cost saving an AMD offers.

Lots of places are doing motherboard, processor, memory packs including a reasonable motherboard, amd phenom quad/quad black and 2/4GB ram at a knock-down price.
Try www.maplin.co.uk for one, they usually have this offer running. Otherwise try ebuyer/aria.co.uk etc etc. The pack will usually be a reasonable saving over the cost of the components separately.

Hope I've been of some use. I have an AMD 9550 phenom quad myself and it's been nothing but faster than expected and very reliable.

http://ebuyer.com ~ On components go to AMD Motherboards and if it says AM2+ in the title then take a look.

The AMD x4 black edition chips are all AM2+ or AM3, so you are fine to go with most AM2+ motherboard's.

Theres a maplin bout 10 mins away, so mihgt pop in there.
Although do usuall order from ebuyer or amazon and found these;

Atm, have: Intel Core 2 Quad 3.0ghz and Asus P5K/Q (forgot) mobo.

How to those rack up in comparison?

Cant edit;

Also came up with this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161328/
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164047/

More expensive, but money isn't a problem.

People say the second one is worthit with an nvidia GTX series and maybe 8gb ram (64bit)?

And got Antec 900 and probobly get an akasa CPU cooler, will they be enough for cooling. (Current Quad Core with antec fans on MED and akasa cooler (3.0ghz quad) is 19-21 degrees idle and around 30 on 3d gaming and video encoding.)
