if you stretch it tears your muscle fibre so you might hurt a muscle during the race/event so to do your best you loosen out it loosens your muscles so you arnt tense but not to far apart.But make sure to stretch after.

Example: put your fingers beside one another so right hand pinkie left hand pinkie and move them apart so they are touching at the part of your finger tips. that is basically stretching.
