Right heres the deal, a while back I edited the systems registry key somewhere to alter XP Automatic Updates to get service pack 3 earlier than release.

The post was somewhere on the forum telling me how to do it.

Now I think I have a problem so I need to return it to its original state.

Does anyone know how to get the correct registry key for my version of XP? Ill post the details below :)

Im also not 100% sure the laptop even knows what version its running, it says Media 2002 in some places then 2005 in others :S

You should always make back-ups of your registry keys after changing them :P

If you tinkered with the automatic updates reg key, this might be helpful:

There are options to regain automatic installations of the updates.

I forget what I changed :P couldn't be bothered to take a backup at the time either, laptop was ruined so I thought "mehh its not going to be around for much longer anyway" but it lasted :P

I'll take a look on that site now :) thanks +rep

Try a system restore to before you edited the registry.

Couldn't do a system restore, everytime it would fail on reboot and say it was not able to restore.

Did a full wipe and re-installed windows :) works a treat now.

Thanks for the help :)
