If you're in a good area, yes it is.

Are virgin lenient on pirating, or is it a bad provider for people who no longer pay for anything except for food and drink?

They're leading the way with anti-piracy stuff, just pay $11 a month for encrypted usenet and you'll be fine, decrypting your stuff is illegal at the moment.

Got this installed earlier this week, loving it so far but as with all broadbands not near the quoted speeds.

What speeds are you getting? There should be no more than a 10% drop in speed from the advertised ones.

Paying to pirate? No. Besides, I've never used usenet.

I'll just get a 20Mb package with someone else.

UseNet is the way forward, you can get some pretty decent free UseNet sites anyway, you don't necessarily have to pay, especially if you aren't a huge downloader.

Paying $11 a month is much much better than a £200,000 fine. And all ISPs are being forced to do stuff about piracy by the government.

But you don't really need to pay for some UseNet sites...

1) It's Usenet, not UseNet
2) Enjoy having no SSL and slow speeds when you don't pay.

My next door neighbour has got this and he's picking up average speeds of around 48mb...

There;s many factors tbh but the main factor = Nearer you live to the Telephone exchange the better your broadband speed will be.

Virgin seem pretty soft of privacy... I've downloaded over 90GB worth of stuff over the last few days or so..

That's not the case with Virgin, it uses 'fibre-optic' cable and not telephone lines. You could be 74,563,991,251,665 miles away from your nearest exchange.

Well I get 2000kbs download speeds, which is more than fast enough for me, and I only paid £6 for lifetime VIP, and yes, I do have SSL, not that I would need it as i'm using a dodgy modem.
