My dad explained it to me cause i didnt really get it.

Basically the robots cant deal with all the bacteria in the world, and yah

On the original theme tune it says. The minute they stepped foot on earth, they were doomed

so yah

ecstasy

ecstasy
22-08-2009, 01:08 PM
causeee, they were being hunted down by the machines, so they went into the cellar. but if they didnt go into the cellar, the machines woulda caught up with them and stored them in their cages where the keep all the people then suck them up.

Omg, i really need to watch the original

Apparently the theme tune is rlly good

i didnt get what they were either :S

It's called 'red weed' and is basically there to take over the planet and destroy every living thing, making it more suitable for the aliens to live. If you noticed nothing was living where the red weed was. It was red because it was made from the blood of the humans the aliens harvested.

Yeah same, it harldy explained everything

And why did the son run off to go watch it :S did he go crazy

Because he wanted to fight for the planet rather than run around aimlessly for no reason. He knew Ray could look after Rachel.

i dont have a clue.
it coulda explained what he did, cause there was a big explosion that he shoulda died in :S

Do you expect a narrator to explain that Robbie is still alive after the explosion? That would have ruined the story and the entire movie.

INNOOO and how come their car started working when a mechanic just fiddled with it and why didnt every1 just do tht

Because he's a mechanic and it's his job to fix cars. If you noticed he got working on the car pretty promptly after everything stopped working. Everyone can't do it because they don't have the tools, equipment or mechanical expertise and no one can take their car to him because none of the cars are working.

LOL IDK
they didnt really think the film through at all

Yes they did, you just didn't get it.

Omg, i really need to watch the original

Apparently the theme tune is rlly good

The remake is a lot better in my opinion. It's more realistic and actually portrays a sense of emotion and distress. The original is just full of cheese.

The birds were included in the film simply to show the characters that the shields on the machines were down. Although, I don't really understand how the aliens being ill would stop the shields from working. I mean, if you have a cold, your computer doesn't stop working does it?

I saw your post before you edited it, Stephen. :P

what was the liquid that rushed out of it

Well I would assume it was the aliens themselves. Since they are able to warp through space and into their tripod's underground they must have some kind of strange, liquid like, flexible, jelly fish body. The liquid that rushed out of the tripod was probably from the decomposing aliens.

dogboy123

Dont think so, becuase the alien was still in there :S

What about the other aliens? Either that or it's some kind or liquid they need to survive. Maybe they drink it or maybe they were having a bath. In the original movie, if I remember correctly, the aliens turn into some horrible, squashy, liquid gunk like thing after they die, so it is most probably from them.

dogboy123
22-08-2009, 01:55 PM
What other aliens, they each had their own pod.

I think the thing that was rushing out was human blood because there was that bit where the tube came down and sucked it all out of a homan

See my edit. Although I think we're talking about a different scene. Are you on about the scene where Ray blows up the tripod? I'm on about the one where the army blow up the tripod without a shield and it opens up and an alien slides down and dies. Maybe the liquid is part of the tripods because they're kind of living beings themselves. We never got to see the insides of one.

How do you know there was only one alien per pod?

I saw it last night too.

Well, by saw it I mean that I watched the start because I thought it was Day After Tommorow, then muted the rest and watched everybody scream and die.

Looked like a pritty **** film, though.

Yeah thats the scene I was on about. I don't remember the liquid being red though, but if it was it probably was the blood from the humans they harvested. Maybe their machine that turns the blood into veins blew up when the army shot the tripod down, so it all gushed out when it fell.

Well the original is such a typical 50s film. Lots of plot holes and some rather melodramatic acting.
The remake has some of the best cinematography and script I've seen in film and this allows the viewer to get on the same level as the characters. The story line starts well Tom Cruise single and divorced (but doesn't play the typical Hollywood bad parent). The thing i like about Cruise is how his character is always the person he is meant to playing he is not playing himself (some of you may disagree). Then the story leads to the Alien invasion and the starting to where i lose interest. I know the film is about Aliens but i feel the story line for the invasion its self is so boring and should be a bit more like the original film. The part that is worst about the film is when Robbie runs off (because he suddenly wants to be a freedom fighter or something) and Rachel (Dakota Fanning is one of the most annoying actresses and her roll fits her perfectly - screaming, Crying, melodramatic, 9 going on 40 year old) and Ray go into that guys basement only to find he Isn't quite the ticket they wanted to safety.

The story ends well with the bacteria thing because unless you already know the end it is highly doubtful you can guess that was it that beat the Aliens.

Id give it 5/10

I thought it was pretty good at the cinema but some parts were a bit annoying. The best bit was when they're in the alien cage thing and he throws a grenade up inside the pod :D.

I like Ontario's overview.

Haha I so agree. Spielberg is overrated imo.

I wouldn't say he's overrated, he just hasn't lived up to his past over the last decade. Like how he's remaking Oldboy with the most overrated Hollywood actor, Will Smith.

It's not a remake of the Korean film, it's an adaptation of the manga series.

Yes, but it's essentially a remake - it's still the story minus certain elements.

Yes, but it's essentially a remake - it's still the story minus certain elements.

The Korean film is only loosely based on the manga, so Spielberg's adaptation will be vastly different. For example, the Korean films story greatly revolves around incest, but there is no incest in the manga. That's how different it is. Spielberg's Oldboy will have nothing to do with Park Chan-wook's Oldboy. The first twenty minutes might be a tiny bit similar, but that will be it. It's not a remake, it's just using the same source material. It's like saying Peter Jacksons's Lord of the Rings trilogy is a remake of the 1978 animated Lord of the Rings movie. It's clearly not, they're just both movies adapted from the same books.

It isn't a sequel and it's completely unrelated to Spielberg's War of the Worlds. It's a mockbuster by The Asylum; nothing more, nothing less.

Oh i got that bit, i just didnt see the significance of the birds.

The force field stopepd the birds landing on them, so when they were perched ontop of them it showed the shields were down. :)

I'm not sure how I feel about this film. Such a mighty force killed by bacteria.. wow.
