anyone excited? they've been showing the backwards adverts for a while and theres quite a lot of speculation over the internet. it will start on 09/09/09 at 9pm on c4 and will be "made up of four one hour specials, during which Derren will attempt what he has described as some of the most incredible feats to date".

speculation ive heard based on the advert includes something to do with the lottery (banner on the side of the bus, lottery balls on the lamp post), banks (balloon with barclays logo), police (because of the date 9/9/9 i.e 999) etc.

thats what is so great. yea, hes a con man but he's a bloody brilliant one. it's not easy to pull of some of the things hes done and with such showmanship aswell, he never claims to have genuine psychic powers or anything so it's not really a fake

i believe it as when you was writing it it wasn't out on dvd or tv and the tour was still going on and the story you told was picture perfect to what happened on the dvd

He researches the numbers, finds a formula for the probability and runs with it. Countless hours of mathematics.

For people who were saying it's "split screen", I highly doubt it. Derren Brown has ALWAYS been against all sorts of camera tricks etc. - he has more class than that!

I think he did it the same way he did the horse racing - recorded the majority of possible outcomes of numbers (he stated that he had been working on this for a year twice during the show), that's why the bonus ball wasn't included, and it just happened to be that all 5 came up, so they played the footage of those five numbers.

After watching yesterdays after show just now, I highly doubt it will be to do with camera trickery. Watching closely, a lot of the things he does is to do with psychological manipulation with little hints, but then again a lot of what he does is totally mind boggling.

We'll see tomorrow... I really really doubt it's a mathematical formula... two reasons. First is that it's pretty much impossible. The balls and randomly selected, with some coming out more times just due to 'luck'. There's no way to really work it out. The second reason is that if it was some sort of mathematical trick, and he told us that, then everybody would give up their job to sit at home all day, everyday until they worked it out to win the jackpot.

No idea how he'll do it, I just don't think it'll be a cheap shot with camera trickery or some mathematical calculation, but we'll see.

I am such a huge huge fan.
I loved him ever since I saw mind control way back years ago, god, probably 8 or 9 years ago!!!!
He is absolutely fantastic, and I remember recording all his trick of the mind shows onto a video and re watching them over and over, I just loved them! What a character he is, he really is fascinating.
And that was excellent, but I wish he didn't give that option at the end, but it wouldn't really be him without adding further controversy I suppose.
Did anyone watch the Seance years ago?? I thought that was amazing, but since his shows have gotten better and better. I especially loved his most recent stage shows Something Wicked This Way Comes and An Evening of Wonders. Especially the latter.
He is fantastic, I used to really fancy him but it turns out he's gay.

that's something i've noticed about this series - he's great at making it seem like he's doing things which in hindsight are clearly 100% illegal/unethical. e.g. stamping on cups with a knife under one and making the woman reach into a box where there may be a mouse even though she has a mouse phobia.

as soon as you realise it's not real, it clicks that he couldn't have ever actually done it for real.
