OWEN HARGREAVES has been named in Manchester United's Champions League squad.

The crocked midfielder is not due back at the team's training ground until September 23 after having surgery on both knees to cure a career-threatening tendinitis problem.

United play their Group B opener against Besiktas in Turkey eight days earlier.

In theory, Hargreaves, 28, could be fit for the Old Trafford clash with German champs Wolfsburg on September 30.

But it is more likely the ex-Bayern Munich star will return to action for the ties with CSKA Moscow in October and November.

Hargreaves joined United for £17million in 2007 and has not played since the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on September 21 last year.

Manchester United have been named the world's most valuable sports club by Forbes Magazine.

Their total value is put at £1.17billion, £200m more than gridi
on's Dallas Cowboys.

Clowgon's right. Hargreaves is possibly better than Carrick, definately better than Barry. He should have a WC2010 spot for sure.

Three years ago? Possibly.

Now? I'm don't think so. lol

Being injured so much can really affect your game play when your eventually fit to play again.

Seriously, I don't get what it is about Barry. He looks useless to me. How can you say he's not when you havent seen him play? Last time I saw him play, he was top class. Once he plays, you come back to me. :D

hargreaves is good on his day, i agree, just look at him in 2006, but rite now, i'd pick barry over him, without a doubt.

not to mention hargreaves is still injured for another year?

Not that this is anything to do with the topic but it says at the bottom about Dallas Cowboys being worth less than Man Utd. Dallas Cowboys new stadium cost more than what Man Utd are worth. :O

quality player, i'd have him over any english defensive midfielder. if he's fit, defo world cup squad. hargreaves > barry. easy.

You just answered your own question! Yeah, at the moment, I'd have Barry rather than Hargreaves, because Hargreaves is injured. He has got set peice quality as well, which we miss when Lennon plays and Beckham doesn't. Once he plays, lets bumpity this thread. And no, he could be fit by October.

Is this sense I see? For swear it, sight! For I never saw true sense until this... afternoon. Hmm, nevermind. Bear in mind, he rates Hargreaves better than Carrick too, and he's a United fan. :eusa_danc
