I know there is a thread about Oasis' split but it disppapointed me at how dead it was and the majority of posts seemed to be by people who certainly are not fans of the band anyway. Also, excuse the wall of text! :eusa_ange

I for one still am a very big fan of Oasis. To some they just seem like a gang of hooligans who are just out to cause trouble, and I can quite easily see why you may think this. But they are a band who were always there while I was growing up. Some of the earliest songs I can remember are Oasis songs and I believe to really understand the band, you need to look past this outer shell rather than judging the book by its cover.

The two main characteristcs of the Gallagher brothers are that Liam is the one with the huge ego who often comes across as very self-centred while Noel is his older brother who tries to deal with things in a more civilised manor while steering the band around its obstacles. Despite the image Liam often publicly displays, especially during interviews, he is often known to be polite and mannerly in private.

Nevertheless, the duo share a common principle which is to generally not give a damn what anyone thinks or says about them. This, as well as their attitude towards music (well, Noel's at least), is what makes them the amazing band they are. This attitude being; that it is all about the music and nothing else. Noel, the songwriter of the band, has even stated not too long ago that being in his 40s, he's too old to write music Oasis are well-known for involving topics such as drugs, alcohol and living on the dole as it wouldn't be as honest and real unlike the days when long ago when this was the case.

Disregarding my personal opinions, it can not be denied that Oasis are an iconic band who brought rock n roll back into the UK airwaves and inspired a whole generation of bands and musicians while lasting twice as long as The Beatles spanning just under two decades. And this apparently isn't even the end! Liam, along with fellow band members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and possibly Chris Sharrock, has suggested that he'll continue on with Oasis without Noel. However the other members have expressed their worry over what Liam may do should he turn on them as well, as he is prone to general episodes of rage as we all know too well.

The break-up is the result of a row before a gig in Paris where Liam ended up smashing Noel's guitar which was the final straw as he could no longer take the verbal abuse he claims to receive from Liam on a regular basis both about himself and his family and friends and so no choice but to walk away moments before being due on stage. The initial cause of the argument was Noel's disapproval of Liam's continued enthusiasm in his own clothing brand Pretty Green, which seems to outweigh his commitment to the band to the extent that he seems happy to use the goodwill earned by Oasis’ music to sell clothes. This of course, greatly frustrated Noel; a musician dedicated to nothing but music.

While this seems like it could be set in stone, the siblings have had their little arguments almost constantly throughout their time as musicians including four main previous "break-ups" and those close to the band believe they'll be back together within the next 10, or even 5 years. On the other hand, by this time Noel is going to be nearing his fifties and the best of Oasis will be well and truly in the past so I wouldn't be surprised if he saw no value in going through the grief of attempting to rejoin his brother to produce music that probably won't satisfy him very much anyway.

For the time being Oasis is without its genius and arguably its foundation, as Noel has become over the years despite not even being involved in forming the band. We'll just have to see what results come about should the others follow Liam and continue onward and upward but whatever happens, the memory of Oasis will continue to live on similar to that of The Beatles, perhaps on a lesser scale but nevertheless, I'm sure Wionderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger will still be sung by many in 40 years time.

I just wanted to share something from the archives. It's some audio interviews with the band which essentially consists of the Gallaghers arguing which I find hilarious, like all their interviews (I actually played these a few times over) :P. However if you try to listen to the points actually being made, I believe it paints a great picture of exactly what I'm saying about Noel's attitude towards music and how it conflicts with Liam's (or at least what he thinks Liam's is). I think what comes across as arrogance from Liam and failure to perceive another's point of view, is simply the result of his need for acknowledgment from his big brother rather than always being outdone by him and I reckon arguing like this is just a defence mechanism really.

Anyway, it's a Spotify link (so will only be accessible if you have Spotify installed) which will offer two recordings from way back in 1995. Enjoy :D.

I don't need to read that to know that you're preaching about how amazing and genius Oasis are. They sounded consistently the same throughout their albums. Boring, repetitive, tedious are all words I can, and often do, use to describe Oasis. One guy on last.fm tried to tell me that Oasis were more exciting than Gallows. That's how deranged Oasis fans seem to be.
Oasis are one of, if not THE biggest over rated bands in British music.

I was originally was just going to post the interviews because they're hilarious but I thought I'd include my take on the current situation as well. I've basically replied to most of your post in the OP though.

However I'll repeat myself; one of the primary reasons I admire them is their attitude and ideals towards music generally as a band. It's a relatively rare occurrence in the modern music industry.

The fact you said all their albums sound the same, tells me you not very educated upon the band, and just going on the band-wagon of hating them. I don't know why. Each and every single one of Oasis albums have had a different sound. Especially Dont Believe The Truth, and Dig Out Your Soul.

Until you get some knowledge on a subject, you shouldn't come into a thread spouting rubbish. :)

No, the fact that I said that their albums all sound the same should tell you to stop listening to repetitive music for the NME masses and start getting a proper music taste

Exactly, +rep.

WE HAVE ESTABLISHED THEY DON'T SOUND THE SAME.

What sort of bands come under a 'proper music taste'? The stuff I like is completely varied and not necessarily associated with Oasis in any way. For example I never listen to the Sex Pistols - Oasis' biggest influence after The Beatles.

It would just be ignorant for me to not like Oasis and yeah like Alba said, people are great at just jumping on the band-wagon of hating them. The thing is, music is what it is - the type of person making the music doesn't really make a difference to how I judge whether a piece of music is good or not. However, as I have said in the case with Oasis, the thing I like more than their music is their musical attitude.
