Sorry if there is already a thread on this, but I couldn't find it! :P

But yeah, on google today, the doodle is of a UFO 'absorbing' the letter 'O', and it's image url is "http://www.google.co.uk/logos/go_gle.gif", with the 'O' missing. Also, on Googles Twitter, they posted some encypted text, "1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.19", and when it's decrypted, it says 'All your O are belong to us'.

How odd. :P

Maybe Google is being renamed to Gogle, or Google are taking over Opera, as the 'O' in the doodle today looks shockingly like Operas logo. :O

Or maybe its just a daily theme like they always have and stuff all to do with opera.

I read that just now, and sombody commented:

God you guys!

Can't you see the other easily possible explanation!?!

It could just be that the people who do the google doodle/website forgot to put the HTML code in to the page that makes the little yellow box appear beneath your cursor explaining what the image is about?!?

That is most likely. (Oh, by the way I think it was the UFO festival)

I have to agree with that comment

I was wondering where the bar at the top had gone.

I hate the google doodles anyway, i never pay any attention to them, this one was wierd though.

Maybe google just did it, so they could laugh at everyone running around trying to discover what was going on.

Maybe their ratings were low and they are seeking a bit of attention. Which they would have succeeded.

err

you mean not adding "alt="unexplained phenomenom"" and instead somehow adding "<a href="http://www.google.co.uk/#q=unexplained+phenomenon&hl=en&ct=go_gle&oi=ddle">" without remembering to add the alt code? Far from likely.

Maybe ?

Yeah, I don't think it's someone jumping on the bandwagon considering the domain was created today.

Firstly, although I have always noticed the similarities that Opera's logo shares with Google's, they are completely different things. (Also, Opera's new logo looks slightly different and to me, more unlike the Google 'O').

Google's doodle is usually customised to celebrate significant events, as we all know. The only three significant things that come to mind are; the 11th anniversary of the founding of Google Corporation which I believe was the 4th of September, the 40th anniversary of man's first steps onto the moon, but this was way back in July and probably most significantly, some day around now (can't find any actual date ANYWHERE) was apparently also the 40th anniversary of the first supposed UFO sighting. Also on the 4th of this month, a film, District 9, was released. It's a mockumentary about an alien invasion of Earth, (looks pretty good, produced by Peter Jackson).

On the other hand, apparently the search term "unexplained phenomena" is what the doodle linked to which has had a recent increase in searches (before the doodle was displayed).

My guess is that it's a nice big ironic pie - the doodle itself is an unexplained phenomena! The guys at Google probably had lots of fun knowing it would trigger all sorts of hype and conspiracy theories with millions of people all over the world - which it most certainly did. Man, must be cool to have that kind of power :P.
