Okay, I need a radio for my site, and was wondering if I needed a license for a rented/paid monthly shoutcast host.

Regards,

SuperSam

Yes if you are playing music on it.

You would need a PPL UK Webcaster License, A PRS LOEL License For Royalty's and if your using jingles that have music beds say from puretonic or plan8music then you would need to get a PRS Blanket license to log all the returns even if you use them as music beds. Otherwise just use royalty free bed's,

If you put music on via a cd you'll Need a MCPS License From PRS.

And For Podcasting if the user can pause rewind fast foward and carry on playing you will need a dubbing license from etheir ends. Unless you come up with some cool scripts on your own dedi server like Gravity did so that you can only click play or click stop in Windows Media Player and you'll get a way with it.

PPLUK has been around for numbers of years, it's only really came into consideration a year or so ago. PPLUK state that you must purchase a license to broadcast music (I think it's only from the UK). If you want your fansite to become Official then buy one, if not then don't worry about it.

If your found to not have one you'll be given a warning and they'll find your logs and make you pay a high price for every song if you ignore them.. And plus they watch you for further radios in future

tbh although they say you need one i have worked on a number of sites without them and they haven't taken any action and tbh i think they have gone down a bit because i havent seen them warning anyone or taking action. As for they're really long letter to all Habbo Fansites which have radios i think it might of been a dead threat just to earn a bit of money. But honestly do you really think they are going to force charge 150 quid liecenses to sites that cause no harm and are run by Habbo fanatics? In my opinions Sulake should pay for the liecenses seeing that they are worth so much nowadays.

You haven't heard of any because no ones willing to admit they've be caught and thats a radiculas idea..
If sulake where to purchase all the licenses they'd have to cover over £450 for a site and it would only be sites they pick and not these fail websites with 20 listeners..

And if they even did it would have to be owned and ran by them because of where the license directs to..

Think of what your going to say before posting it? Might make more sense..

Look at the ammount of people who voted habbo of to ppl, prs, bmi ect.
And they didnt come in just now to make a little bit of money..
It was because they where unsure if sulake where covering over them and finally sulake got of their back sides to read some e-mails to find a law e-mail..

You've got to remember though at the amount sulake make they could pay for all the fansites without a struggle? or atleast put a bit of funding into it?

And yeah i suppose no one will admit they been caught but hey thats down to them not us.
