Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has been suspended from football for nine months by the Football Association following a failed drugs test.

The Irish international failed a drugs test following last season's play-off semi-final clash with Preston North End.

The 31-year-old tested positive for the prohibited substance Ephedrine and he was charged under FA Rule E25 in relation to Regulation 2 of The FA Doping Control Programme Regulations.

He was suspended upon confirmation of his initial test on July 22, and he will now not be allowed to participate in any football until April 22, 2010.

Took cough medicine and it contained that. Bit harsh as they believe him but he should have told the club and they got have got appropriate medicine or something.

Ye but you got to think of it from their point of view, yes they may believe him, but he could just be saying it was in the cough medicine (even though it really was, but it doesn't make a difference) ~ but he could have took the performance enhancing drugs a lot, and then just taken the medicine to 'cover himself up' ~ harsh yes, but that's the way they will look at it, unless he had proof like his manager was their when he taken it or something, then he doesn't have a leg to stand on... very harsh.

It's his duty to know as a sportsman what he can and can't take, he should have talked to his club docters. It's not like its a small club. His fault, his punishment of 9 months maybe slightly harsh

The ban shouldn't be that long.

My brother took ephredrine before he played a rugby game and ended up in hospital. He hurt himself but because of it's "pick-up" qualities all he wanted to do was play on.
