I reckon this is the right section, seeing as its software I'm looking for.

I wanna do my own music mixing, stuff like putting different backing tracks with different lyrics, and mixing stuff around a bit. Is there any decent, cheap (free would be even better) mixing software, ideally one that works with music imported from iTunes (MPEG4 files)?

Audacity will do this for free, also you do realise if you change the CD import options in iTunes it will make .mp3?

I did know that, yes, but its easier for one that does MPEG4 files as I've imported 1000 songs in that format. Don't really want to reimport all of those tbh.

Change the settings, right click the songs > Export to MP3, done. You'll thank me when you want to use them to mix.

adobe audition is good on multi track view. I use it for jingles.

Agreed, its easy to record with + you can change backing easier. You use autotune?
