Do you think you are born with artistic ability or can you 'learn' to draw?
Im just curious to know everyone's answers as I'm not very good at art and would like to start drawing...

I was really bad at drawing in Year 7 but I bought some book on how to draw Manga and I can draw most anime characters perfect now. Real life, eh not so much.

I've always sucked at Art but it's also worth noting I've never actually tried at Art, I'm pretty confident it's not my hidden talent but I perhaps should atleast give it a go and try to improve :P

Born but I guess you can learn. I've been drawing since I was tiny and I'm pretty good now :]
But everyone learns something new right?

I think its under the environment that you were brought up in, and how much art you have encountered when you were young, thats what makes you have a 'natural ability' in Art. It just feels natural to you because you've been brought up with it all your life. Sure people can learn from books, but I think the purest form is being brought up around it.
It's alot like musicians who've played like guitar from the age of 2-3, I think the lead bloke from Trivium did that since his parents were so into music... Now look at him :P

bit of both
im ok at art
maybe thts becos my dads a planner and he can draw designs of buildings n stuffs
but yeah, if you think about it, someone naturally talented who doesn't put much effort in or someone who doesn't have a talent for it, but works their heart out, they will be the one who is better at the end

i think it's a mix of both. i'm hopeless, i always will be at anything even remotely artistic. however, i have seen people improve for sure through practice. even if i tried really hard i wouldn't get any better, my brain just doesn't work like that.

I think to stand out there has to be talent there to make it that bit more special and individual, but you can learn and get better.

I think it's possible to train yourself to become talented at anything, but also it comes more naturally to some people than others.

It's all about practice. Everyone starts out equally then the more you practice the more you improve. The only cases where people are 'born' artistic are some types of autism where people are literally naturally good at it. Everyone else just has to practice, it's a skill like any other that can be honed.

I'm rubbish at drawing free hand, I can do engineering diagrams and whatnot like that alright, but plain and simple drawing I'm just kak at :P. I can draw using a computer though, much easier and they come out looking a lot better.
I'm sure people can learn to draw if they have the patience, I know I sure can't haha

Of course it's a learned skill, but some people do seem to have a keener eye for detail. That's only really relevant for life drawing and such rather than art as a whole but being able to control your pencil/pens/paintbrush/other words beginning with P is obviously going to help

Also known as being born gay ;) But besides from that stereotypical points! :D
Anyhoo, it depends what you consider art. Some are naturally talented with portraiture, and different types of portraiture, while others are better with other things like sculpture or clay.
It depends what really :) When you put your mind to it, you can create some interesting things.

People can learn to be artistic if they have enough time and patience, so no, you are not born with it.
