View Full Version : Sig Laws
I'm getting kind of sick of this.
I'll find an image, and I'll paste it into my signature. Then I'll get it removed and a PM sent from a mod. Okay, fine and dandy if it was over the image size. But I've measured the last three sigs in paint and they're all moderately under the limit.
And now I'm getting kind of sick of this.
So I just wanted to put a signature that didn't stop anybody. Didn't hurt anybody. Sure it was over the limit and maybe a helpful mod would just say "Take it down please?" But because of my previous PMs, I've been given an infraction.
I think the law should be this: the mod should make the decision whether or not it is too big. You shouldn't put different dimensions for different ranks but it's just unfair. If I was a n00b and I wanted to show off my fancy .gif signature, I couldn't because it would be too big. You'd argue that it'd stop people from just spamming sigs, but I honestly don't see that being a problem.
I just want to be able to put a funny .gif in the middle of my sig, one that makes people maybe smile or just frown. One that's not xbox huge, or against the laws of forum physics. I'm pretty sure having this image in my signature wouldn't hurt anybody.

Is that image you have what you want in your sig because the limits are '700x150' and yours is like 265x265. Thats obviously out side the dimensions for everyone.
The reason for different dimensions for avatars for different ranks is to encourage people to post to get that bigger image as your avatar. For signature, its all the same for everyone and its done so people dont have massive signatures and it lags the page etc.

There are signature rules so people don't have massive images taking up all the space that is one of the main reasons. The standard size for most users is 700x150 which is an ideal size, I have just checked your usernotes and it does seem you like to go over the limit each time. Paint isn’t the most advanced program and you may have misjudged the correct size of the image. Since you keep breaking the rule that is why you got the warning from previously and this time you got an infraction.
These rules are pretty simple and similar rules can also be found on other forums for mostly the same reasons. I hardly think we will be changing them any time soon.
Can I also point out that you only get warnings/infractions for this rule if you keep repeatedly breaking it or ignoring a Moderator to remove it in a first place within a period of time.

Hey,
The rules are working at the moment and they're there for a good reason, not only do people use netbooks and such these days, but we don't want peoples signatures filling the page and stuff up.
In your case, you recieved an infraction because on 6 previous occasions you have been told about signature rule violations, I'd say the Signature/Avatar Rule Violation infraction is one of the lesser used ones tbh, because once people have been told once or twice, they tend to get the picture.
Also, looking at your usernotes, they have all been oversized (right click and properties) - so Paint must be getting mixed up.
Although, I like the gif :P

Sure it was over the limit .....
You have openly admitted you ignored the moderators previously and went against the size limits, your infraction was for defiance. So why add it back if you knew it was against the rules?
They are reasonable sizes. The reason we have it is that the pages dont take forever to load because somebody has a stupidly size or bandwidth hogging signature image.
That does hurt someone having to wait for an age for a thread to load.
Despite everything you have said I don't see any problems with the way our moderators acted. You have been told on numerous occasions that your signature images are either inappropriate or more often are too big.
We are not going to ask a user to remove the signature picture, especially not someone who is fully aware of the rules surrounding the size of their signature pictures as that requires follow ups which takes up moderation time.
It is quicker for us to just remove the image and consider the matter resolved that is the reason why we do it.
As for the multiple rule breaking, you may find that if you let it continue to happen one of the super moderators or forum admins may put you in a position where you will only be allowed to post on the forum and not use signature pictures or avatars.

I'd like to point out that there is still users on the forum who have images bigger then the "700x150" limit.. And they have been there for a while, maybe its time they got removed too?
If that is the case why not help us out by using the report post button?
We can't sit around and review every active users signature image, we can only catch it as we use the forum ourselves.

All moderators keep an eye out for such things however it is hard for a team of ten people to moderate every signature and avatar of every active user on the forums.
I suggest if you see an oversized signature or avatar and would like to report it PM one of our Super Moderators.
It's worth noting the following exceptions to the 700x150 rule:
Emerald Members: 700x200
Platinum Members: 700x300
Habbox Donator: 700x300
Habbox VIP: 700x300
If you'd like further information check the FAQ's.

They do post a lot so its not like you have to find the needle in a hay stack or some crap like that ;)
edit:
@hecktik, pretty sure the person who has the girl fingering the bun is not a vip or smething?

To be honest, I rarely see anyone with a sig over 300px as it dont allow it but some times they slip through which I havnt seen for ages.

Ten moderators.
Hundreds of active members.
We arent robots, we do our best. A reasonable number of signatures and avatars are reported to s'mods on a daily basis.

Still, it's impossible to go through every post, hence the post report system. If you want to be helpful then let us know.

I havent seen the girl fingering a bun personally. We'd be ever so grateful if you reported the post if you see it around.

Nope but your also not willing to say you would help us by reporting the users. Instead you seem to want to tell us our shortcomings without actually telling us where they are. :S:rolleyes:
All I can say is that back to the OP. Nothing wrong with what we have done.
As this thread isn't going to go anywhere else.
