Well it's been a long time since I posted on these forums, mainly due to being overloaded with work but I'm hoping to get a bit more active again now that things have settled down for myself. Some of you may remember me, some of you (most of you) probably wont.

I'm basically posting this to let people know of something I want to setup maybe with the help and contribution of a few other people who are interested.

I would like to setup a design and web inspiration gallery and blog (though I am open to any new dynamics which people may like to add to the collection) which is updated on a regular basis which provides a large set of the best inspiration from designers around the globe and interesting articles about the latest web and design trends. Bringing all kinds of content like this can be incredibly useful for upcoming designers & developers alike. Also with an idea like this it's possible for all kinds of people to come and join the team adding new dynamics to the website and reaching a wider audience.

The aim of this would be to build a useful and accessible resource for graphics designers, web designers, web developers and as many different types of people possible. This would also raise publicity and awareness of those actively contributing to the website and could grow into a great community.

So yeah, anyone who is interested in collaborating on this project with myself feel free to get in touch via PM for more details.

Unless you're going to offer something different than what's already available from CSS galleries then it's going to fail. I hate using that word but that's the truth ;).

Well if you read you'd see its not just a bloody CSS gallery =D It will be full of articles as well on stuff like design principles or new web technologies etc. As well as being a gallery for more graphical people. It's full dynamic depending on the people who contribute. =]

i know you said it will include articles etc etc, but there are too many sites that already exist for design inspiration as well as articles. I cant name any but i know they exist.

best of luck though, i remember you and what youve created so i know it would be top notch

Yeah I know it would be hard to get it "popular" but thats not the target. The target is to create something interesting which people find useful when they stumble accross it. Therefore it is not a "failure". It's simply for interests sake and to build even just a small community of cool people that can all aid each other in unique ways and share interesting information and amazing inspiration.

If it's not popular then that means it's hard to monetize which means it won't be self sufficient and so it will eventually just have to close due to lack of funding/care. If you don't aim for a site to be popular then it's not going to work.

I disagree to an extent - blogs/personal sites are an exception and some sites can be useful for learning curves and exhibitionism. Apart from that, I agree.

But this isn't a blog/personal site?

Sounds slightly like Smashing Magazine to me (not saying that's a bad thing :)). Or have I completely misunderstood it?

Simon was making a sweeping generalisation about all sites.

If you get it working well (which I believe you can after seeing your work from your sig) it wont take off straight away. What will happen is small amounts of people will stumble across your page, like what they see and constantly revisit, and, slowly, they will spread the news to their mates, and their mates to their mates, etc... until it starts to expand really quickly. Thats what happened with twitter, facebook and dynamic drive.
