Well il +rep a billion times for this, im doing a 18th party cos my 18th is soon, im doing a guestlist on spreadsheet by doing the names in the 1st colum and the second colum there sex, im trying to work out how many males to females. can someone help me do this :P

What I would do is have their names in column one, male in column 2 and female in column 3. Then when you're all done @sum the male column and then do the same for the female column.

could you not sort it by the gender column and then highlight all the males and work out how many there are from the range selected? Then for females just the total number of rows minus males ?

Metric1, Blob and infrequent, there is a shorter way to skin the cat. If you use the COUNTIF function, you don't need to use more than one column for gender. ^_^

Edit: The functions used in the total cells would be something along the lines of

=COUNTIF(B:B, "Male")
