View Full Version : Weird Habbit/disorder?

Hi PureGenius here. I'm wondering about this habbit I have got into over the last few weeks or so.

To cut long story short:
Everytime I got to bed I must ensure everything is to my satisfaction. For instants: If a pile of my clothes are in a heap I must fold them up. If I try to think to myself "let's not fold them up tonight" whenever I'm lying in my bed I always think about them not being folded and fold them.

To clear this is up I don't care what everything is like in the day it's just at night when I go to sleep. I think it maybe because I am worried of not sleeping. Another issue I have is my toothbrush must be completely straight or I will worry about it not being straight when I try to get to sleep. In the day I couldn't care less if it was straight or not.

Is this just me getting worried that I won't sleep or is there any disorder to what I'm doing.

Comments/replies are appreciated.

It sounds like it could be minor OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), I have similar symptoms, but its not really OCD for me, just habits :D. The one thing to ask is do you feel you have continually check them afterwards to see if its right? If you don't then its probably just a habit. But if you are worried about it though, go see your local GP, they should be able to diagnose it or take you to someone who can.

Yeah, it's nothing excessive and I think lots of people check such things. I'm not one of them but it certainly isn't uncommon. I'd go and see your Doctor and tell them exactly what you told us and I'm sure they'll be able to help :)

to me it sounds like you want to avoid sleep sometimes, when i use to feel unhappy i use to leave my light on and move stuff around, put books in places, put my socks in basket etc. but thats when i was feeling worried or unhappy about something and felt i wouldn't be able to sleep without taking my mind off it.

it could be minor ocd but you should try and force yourself out of it quickly before it becomes a permanent habit.

Well if I convince myself for instants my clothes isn't folded I will redo them but when I convince myself they are completely folded I will not bother to redo them. It depends really if I convince myself =P

I will do if it becomes more common.

Autism causes that, but I doubt it's that as you'd have noticed other symptons.

No I don't think I have autism:P. I've only been doing this in the last few weeks and I carry on doing this because I get to sleep really quick, although I really want to stop these habbits It's pretty hard to stop.

I'm a bit like that, only it's when I'm in the living-room. If I'm watching television and there's something infront of the television on the floor, I have to move it because I can't concentrate on the television with it being there. But I used to want everything perfect before I went out or went to sleep, but it's sorta just passed now.

Yeahh it's OCD.

Some people have like real major cases of this like washing their hand like 30+ times a day 'cause they think they might be dirty and have germs on and such.

I have a minor case like the volume on the telly has to be on certain numbers and everything has to be neat and straight in my room when I go to sleep so my mind is settled.

It's weird but I'm sure most people do have them. Sometimes they pass over and sometimes it's just a thing you can have for years.

Yeah I think it's the same for me I have a minor case most likely. Tonight though I'm going to try and go to sleep without tidying anything or making things straight.. I'll tell you what happens tommorow (sunday).

i keep my tv at a certain volume o_o doesn't mean i have ocd, because to loud, neighbours will hate me, and to quiet and i can't hear it properly. Not ocd just logic :P

i guess i kinda had minor ocd before when switchig on laptop, but the laptop forced me to do it, the screen would black out if i didn't open internet explorer and task manager straight away.

OCD would be if you kept checking the volume just to make sure that it was on the right volume. It isn't exactly what you do that defines OCD, but why you do it , how many times you do it and what anxiety is causes you before and after etc.

I do it with my speaker light. If the light on my speaker isn't off and I'm in bed, I'll keep thinking about it and it'll drive me mad until I get out of bed and turn it off :(

I'm like that, I get paranoid that I've left the light on my speaker and router cause I think I can see the light shining from it :S. It happens with my Xbox pack light as well (the one that shines orange) and my laptop, unlike with my laptop that I can just turn off the power, the time and date resets on my Xbox whenever its not connected to a power source, so I've put a bit of paper over the light so I can't see it :D.

Yeah same it will drive me mad then eventually I'll sort it out.

Aaah it's so annoying :P. Saying that though my mind is now always settled when I got to sleep and I get to sleep really quick, so it's not to bad.
