Agreed.
Mild banter does not exist in football, only to the moderators.
I'm waiting to probably get banned as I just don't feel like I care about what I post because whatever seems to be OK, just isn't on this forum... I mean, if there was a thread about banter on my club, fair enough I don't think I would mind people posting negatively about my club in that, as that is the point in the thread. But I'm not happy if they say it in something as simple as 'City have bought blah blah'.
Bye guys if I get banned, its been fun.:eusa_clap

Lucy's fine moderating skills are being shown. Closes a thread on Bobby Robson's death as it has been bumped and even leaves a smiley face in her edit. Now, she edits a post where he is obviously joking. Looking for a promotion, eh?
Now, we've got invincible who thinks he's it 'cause he can ban people. l00k @ me i iz smod, i banz you!!!111!

Banter is banter.
It's allowed it's just got to be in context in a sports related discussion, you can't just create a thread slating a football team cause is likely to offend other people and cause arguments and lets face it this forum has become infamous becaue of it's arguments.

The moderators only have to say mild banter because if we give you an inch most of people in this forum take a mile. There is such thing as mild banter it's basically banter without the personal attaches who cares what you say about the clubs but when you start insulting forum members like "glory fans" and other things then we can't let that happen.

I've tried not to break the rules in the past, because I know how annoying it can be for staff to deal with it, but at the end of the day the Sports forum does need some banter, and to be honest, I can probably name the 7-9 users that pretty much solely post here and to be honest, I can tell when one of them are trying to be offensive and when one is joking, e/g above where it was clearly a joke (not blaming Lucy as she said she was told to edit it)
I mean, personally I don't get along with lBlue and we argue sometimes yeah, but It doesn't mean I don't respect the fact that he does know a lot about football and is passionate towards his club and we argue but I hardly take anything he says to heart and I'm not bothered too much really.
I can see where the rules come from but at the end of they day, most the time people are just joking in the Sports forum and sometimes moderators see it the wrong way.
Anyway, yeah.

what was wrong with my post then? why did it need editing? according to yourself jack has to take offense to it in order for it to be deemed an offense.

That's sport for you though. You can't have sport without arguments. If your team lose on Saturday, you expect to ribbed on Monday about it then you say something back and end up arguing. Arguing isn't always bad. If it's directly at the person or their family then fair enough but half the time it isn't. Yes, we go on about glory-hunters all the time, maybe too much but we're supporters of local teams on here and believe most should. The arguments on here are fine. Not many are taken too far.

personally, i think you should. you shouldn't change because you're a mod. if people say something you shouldn't let it lie. say something back just obviously not directed at them personally.

I absolutely agree. When I have some banter with someone, I learn more about football and their club which in a way makes me happy. Shame the rules are too tough on us to do this now though.
The moderators are going to have a long evening today... lol

I am quite a big sports fan myself and I do understand this and naturally banter does occur, like you say if your team loses on the saturday yes you can expected for it to be ripped into you afterwards.
HOWEVER... usually this occurs between friends and is done in a friendly way.. which is really where the term 'banter' comes from.
There is a difference between banter and arguing, maybe a fine line between the two however there is definitely a difference.
There's a difference between "hahahahahah manchester united lost alex ferguson is a ****" - IN REFERENCE TO A MATCH
than a random post saying "Manchester united suck alex ferguson is ***** ***** ***** manchester united fans are stupid and deluded and hahahahahahahhahahahahah"
The three threads removed tonight were very much like the second example there, maybe not to the extreme highlighted there but they were getting there.
We don't mind you ripping it into people who get beaten, but ripping it into people just because you don't like their team? Sorry but it's matter of opinion and people should not be lynched for supporting a team you do not like.
I can confirm that the moderation team are looking into longer-term solutions to make the sports forum a better and more lively place to post.
I'm going to close this thread now but if anybody has any further questions i'd like to give you the opportunity to PM myself, another Super Moderator or even MattGarner the Forum Manager regarding this forum.
We appreciate your ideas & comments - as long as criticism is constructive ;)
