I was thinking of taking my girlfriend to NY just before christmas (December 1st - 17th probably) anyway I wanted to do something special for her.
I was looking online and there is this thing where you experience 0 gravity so you float. The company is called Zero G and they are in NY on the 5th of December...

Do you think it would be a good idea? She loves flying but she's never done anything like this.
The prices are about $4950 per person (Individual flight) so I need honest answers so I don't make a mistake.

Thanks.

[P.S] I had doubts about posting it on here but hopefully I can get sensible replies, otherwise I'll close the thread and discuss it elsewhere.

at $5000 for one person - no. there are a lot more special things you can do with £100, let alone $5000...

No but it's an experience of a life time? We'll only do this like once in our lives. But I understand where your coming from, but its partly my parents money not mine and they aren't too bothered.

how long have you been going out? (if you don' mind me asking). because if its in the months region, i wouldn't spend that much money and find cheaper alternatives. but if money isn't an issue, and you really love her then go for it i suppose...

If you're not paying for it then go for it. But it's hardly "once in a life time".

In fairness you only get Zero G for a few minutes and I'm sure in 15-20 years you'll be able to go into space, then you'll have Zero G for hours :P

Might be worth baring that in mind. It does sound quite a fun idea though, I'd personally rather go first class to the US but you might already be doing that lol.

Just under 2 years at the moment :)

Well, I wouldn't look to pay for it again lol.

I ain't going to speak to my mates about it incase one of them spill the beans. My mum&dad&me are discussing it, they think it's a great idea and a lovely thing to do before christmas. They go "Hope she isn't expecting a christmas present around that price from us!", I had to laugh.

I will consider this a Christmas present but ofcourse I will still get her something.

I was looking at that, it looks pretty cool, but I'd spend the money on more things to do in NY, it'll be much more fun! Haha! :D

if you really really want to do it, go for it, but my opinion is that i wouldn't really bother, a nice meal in times square may mean more to her than a Zero G flight.

We will do all that, ice skating, her shopping (dreading :X), helicopter tour thing and stuff but just think this would be nice. We went to Australia not long ago and did bungee jumping and white water rafting. (Was apart of the around the world trip we did)

It is a good present, but not a $5000 good present. For that money you could get loads of awesome things that add up to way more overrall entertainment then the Zero G thing.

Look imagine that this flight is just the same price as anything else thats good. I am not worried about money for the last time, money isn't a problem.

Your mind seems pretty set on doing this Zero G thing, so I'm not quite sure why you've asked for opinions.

I, personally, wouldn't spend all that money on floating for a few minutes. New York is an amazing place with loads to see and do. I'd much rather travel in the First Class cabin and stay in a good hotel in Times Square.

Yeah, it would be fun - but why just throw $5000 out into space?

If you're not worried about the money, then do it! It certainly does look amazing, and I would love to do it! She'd love it, crack on pal, it'll be a nice surprise. :)

You're going to spend 10k on a trip with a girl that could dump you as soon as you get back. NY is played out tbh.

I want to know what you think, of course my minds going over matter because it isn't something that someone does that often or ever does. The Hotel will definetly be good which reminds me does Hilton have a hotel in NY? It won't be a cheap flight, I want to make it a wonderful Christmas for me aswell for her.

Thanks, i'll be checking a few things over then i'll look to sort this out.

You got to take risks in life, i'm not going to brag but my parents company keeps me up (well after the drop in shares yesterday but it has risen again so yeah) so money is the least worrying thing at the moment.

Just imagine this is free, don't consider the price, I wish I never mentioned it.

But I think I have made my mind up, a good few replies in here that contributed to it.

Anyone who has experience or knows of any good hotels in NY, as many people have said from this thread Times Square might be a good spot then could you please post the name or website. Thank you.

We visited NYC in 2002 and stayed at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Times Square (http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/925/en/hd/nycmh?sicreative=3376950221&sitrackingid=28500702&sicontent=0&siclientid=1931&cm_guid=1-_-100000000000169089574-_-3376950221&cm_mmc=Google-PS-CP_UKContent-_-G%20B-AmericasEast-_-Exact-_-crowne%20plaza%20times%20square|-|100000000000169089574&_requestid=315444). It was an amazing hotel with an even better view. We had a view of the Empire State Building, the centre of Times Square, and a great Italian restaurant across the road... :P Really do reccomend it.

If you choose to stay there, let me know and I still have the room number we stayed at if you want to request it :)

What room type did you stay in, there a quite a few fancy ones on there but I don't want it really fancy because they have rooms that will suit our needs that are just as good.

The CONCIERGE TOWER KING W BKFST NONSMOKING (Romantic Escape package) would be just over $10,000 for 17 nights, which I think is good but I can't seem to find pictures of it. I was speaking to the online agent about it and they were saying it is a favourite etc.

I'm pretty sure that's the Crowne Plaza in Manhattan. 17 nights in Manhattan.. kinda long, it the novelty wears off after about 7.

We just had a normal room I believe, just got lucky with a great view.

As Metric said, 17 nights could be too long for you. We were there for 4 nights on our way down to Orlando. Could have done with just a couple more.

I think it's a really nice idea as its different and original =]
But pleeaaaase check with her that she doesn't have a fear of flying in any shape-or-form, I know you'll probs be like well 'I know she doesn't because shes my girlfriend and I would know' and everything, but its an idea just to be 101% certain because this would be an uber bad idea otherwise. OH! and that she doesnt get motion sickness!
Also as you said, seeing as money isnt a problem and coming from a female perspective, it may be really nice (if your able to!) to book 1st class/ business class tickets across the atlantic, even if it means perhaps having to not do something else, as I know most girls would absolutely love this =] but its just an idea as the holiday sounds absolutely immense anyway! :D

I have shortened the trip to 10 days that we spend 6 days in NY from the 3rd of December until the 8th, I am willing to do another 4 days somewhere else but I'm not sure where. Las Vegas perhaps but I haven't made my mind up, seeing what my mum&dad know of.

She loves flying so that's not a problem, the plane will be business/first class.

It's frighterning when looking at the total haha, mum&dad go 'she better like it' :P

We also did Las Vegas for 4 nights in 2007. It was nothing short of amazing. We did a day over at the Grand Canyon which finished with 13 miles of unpaved road through the dessert, thank goodness for the 4 wheel drive!

Once there, we took a drive to the Grand Canyon Skywalk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon_Skywalk) which was crazy. One of the best things I've done. You both seem like extreme people, you would love this.

Lots of good shows on the Strip too, look at all the options. :)
