View Full Version : Is lunch an important meal?
Lately I've been eating quite alot less than usual and it's got to a point where I never feel hungry anymore so the only times I eat is breakfast and dinner without any snacks or meals inbetween.
People say skipping breakfast is not good so I was just wondering weather skipping lunch was the same or is it fine?

I wouldn't skip any if I were you, just eat smaller portions throughout the day.

i do this sometimes. depends how regular it is. the other day i went over a day without eating, i just was constantly full. i don't think it's normal but i don't think there is anything majorly wrong. obviously you should try and eat breakfast lunch and dinner but if you're not hungry then you're not going to.

I never eat lunch and I'm usually bouncing off the walls. I guess it's the least important meal.
At night you sleep for hours, hours without eating. Breakfast wakes your body up. If you skip lunch, supper also wakes your body up again and prepares it for the night.
Lunch just uhh.. keeps you going.. But I don't think it's important.
I never miss a lunch but us Portuguese (and I believe other mediterranean people :P) make sure we get our lunch on-time everytime. Shops close in Portugal at midday (People say it's cause its the hottest part which it is but we all go for lunch then) and we don't like to have our lunch disturbed.
So it's a automatic thing for me to go out for lunch everyday or just sit down and eat a meal.

A lot of European nations close for ages for lunch, would never happen in England, lol. Apart from very small village shops and stuff (i.e. the post office in my village) :P
I don't eat lunch on school days i have a snack at 11 and a snack at 1.15. That's all i have time for in my day really. To me it's unimportant and i don't see any harm in missing it if you have a good breakfast and tea :)

I see lunch as a time to eat if you're hungry between breakfast and dinner. If you miss lunch, I'd probably eat more for dinner.

A lot of the time it's easy to just not eat it because you don't feel hungry, but if you make the effort and just eat it anyway then you'll have more energy between lunch and dinner. I'm normally quite grumpy if I don't eat.
Well yeah, because even if I miss breakfast, my "lunch" will replace the breakfast, to keep me going till dinner so I don't get hungry or crave anything. :P

Food is important, meals aren't as they are a routine. Just make sure you eat a decent amount of food :/ Though it would probably be better to follow the usual meal routine of at least lunch and dinner (breakfast varies on time management).
I learnt this in home-ec :L
So I may not be 100% correct
but Breakfast comes from fasting for say 8hours
And when your body hasn't has anything in its system in a long time it begins to eat its storage.
Thig is the body needs to get the storage back, when you eat breakfast it is digested slightly quicker than other meals and the body rushes to get the nutrients from it, and most off the time is almost automatically turned to fat.
Thats why breakfasts are important cause if you eat meat for you lunch, withought a breakfast, you will turn that into pure fat and it will make you gain weight!
:]]]]]
But I would advise eating atleast a small lunch :]
Hope this helped xD

If I'm up early to go out I'm never hungry. I might eat breakfast if I get up later on and don't have to do anything. I never really have lunch but I usually have something in the evening. When I'm at home all day I snack quite a bit :P.

I never eat lunch, don't have enough time
Yes because most people in the morning don't have breakfast as you've just woken up on the spot, so they'll want to have lunch considering how hungry they'll be. Also it keeps the brain working throughout the day, so yes, i would say lunch is pretty vital, especially to foreign people who have dinner late.

I guess I could moan at you for stereotyping, but the thing is, "foreigners" eating dinner late isn't a stereotype anyway lol.

I wouldn't really class it as 'important' i only eat about once a day but if i do get hungry i tend to just grab something on the way home from college. My dad thinks i eat three times a day though ;-)

It's a fact lol? It's because of the climate they live in...

I usually eat 3 meals a day, Breakfast at 7 Am, Lunch At 12 Pm & Dinner At 5 Pm, now I don't know how my comments will come across to you as I am anorexic so I guess I do things a differently but I always make sure I get my final meal of the day (Dinner) which is my largest meal, I usually have an unbuttered bagel or a salad filled bagel for my lunch but occasionally I miss my lunch & it does not seem to do any harm.

I do miss lunch sometimes, if it's only on rare occasions then it shouldn't affect you too much, in some cases it can help your body use the energy it gets from food more efficiently.
Of course?
Eat to live.
Can't stand seeing these people who starve themselves on say 1,200 calories

Lunch is all I eat. Don't bother with breakfast and frequently skip dinner. Days I'm at college, anyway. Don't eat lunch if I'm just at home.

Dinner is my important meal, I know it shouldn't but I can't eat early and I just don't like eating out at lunch. So to me I would say no lunch isn't that important.
