View Full Version : Should I take my dentist to court?

A few weeks back I got two fillings on my back teeth. I have been having pains and I can't eat with the left side of my mouth, so today I went back to my dentist, he took x-rays and was explaining to me why my teeth are in pain. He said that the filling was put in too close to the nerves, surely this is his fault and he should of been more professional in what he was doing, if he had common sense then surely he wouldn't of put the filling in too far. He said that if the pain does not go away I could lose nerve in my tooth which may resolve in losing my tooth and if I want to keep my tooth I will have to pay 800 Euro for them to re-wire my nerves on that one tooth. This method will take 6 hours, 3 hours on two different days. Should I ring up the smalls claim court, I am 17 years of age so losing the tooth would be a terrible loss at this age. Please leave comments giving me advice on what I should do.
It is indeed his fault here 100%, though obvious re-doing and mending anything in a captalist based economy costs money. This indeed shouldn't have happened, it is really rare for professionals in the medical field make any mistakes at all. It is worth trying to indeed call the small claims court, if you have already spoken to your dentist (or even argued with him might I say) - however before doing so, calculate how much it will cost you to take this to the small claims court etc. But it was fault on their half and you should of had it done properly in the first place, I would definately be quite angry over it.
No.
Is it an NHS dentist or private dentist? When you first joined you most likely or your parents signed some sort of contract.
Could try a compensation claim though maybe if its that painful.

Is there an NHS in Ireland?
Also you can't sue him, but you shouldn't be liable to pay money for it.
