I get my braces on next wednesday and i had my rings put in today

most people dont seem to know what they are - they're little things that slot between your teeth to make a gap to make it easy for the brace to be fitted.

So far it's been really aching - dentist said it would :/

Does it ache/hurt whilst having it fitted/afterwards? and if yeah, for how long?

+reps !

My friend had them put on when she had her braces removed, she said they ached like hell, it looked like she was crying, but they were aching that much they were making her eyes water. She used that stuff you give children when they're teething, can't remember what its called, didn't work much but it helped.

i can't really say, i had a retainer without ever having a fixed brace, but my brother had a fixed brace and i can remember him having pain of it for about 2 month before it eased off. i had pain just from a retainer. Dentists like pain.

So, you mean spacers? That's what they are called here.

Yes the braces will hurt when you get them in. Vastly more so than any pain you are feeling now, it will be sore and it will be frustrating not being able to eat. You'll just have to deal with it and it'll go away within a week or so. They won't be sore when you get them on, they'll just feel tight but gradually it will grow and get sore. A smart plan of action would be to take some painkillers before the pain starts.
However that's the worst it gets, they can be sore after you get them tightened as well but it's nothing like when you get them on. Worth it all in the end :)

i had braces for a year the full shabang - it was extremely painful. basically its gonna hurt like hell once they've been tightened, and trust me sometimes, you wont even be able to eat a banana after - thats how horrible it can get.

but trust me; at the end of the day. you're going to be so glad you went through it all - because honesty; it is so worth it.

I'm thinking spacers, but that might be the technical term. :P I never got them before I got my braces on, it hurt a lot anyways, but I think it would've hurt a lot less, if they would have prepared me with spacers. Ah, Well! I've had my braces since I was 13, almost 17 now so 3-4 years. I really hate my orthodontist, I haven't had a update on when I was going to get them off since i started going, so i have no idea what they are doing.

You should test your pain threshold by trying to eat something when your braces have been tightened. I did this by just eating a couple digestive biscuits right after getting them tightened, it hurts like hell but it's something to do and relieves the frustration of it all.

After all the **** they were going to put me through and the retainer and everything else I just said **** it, my teeth aren't that bad and all that for that long wasn't worth it.

It will be aching after the braces, its all normal. It should get better after three days at the most. Ask your othodontist for more info.

Good Luck :)

rrrr(N)
i remember getting them, and tbh they hurt me more than when you get your braces on.
I could not eat, alls i was having was milkshakes >3.
It doesnt hurt when you get your brace on but it aches afterwards, but a tablet takes the pain away (:
I got mine on last january, and i still have mine on. Getting them off soon though.
wait till you start noticing your teeth straightening up (Y). :eusa_danc
