The strong favourites, Chicago have been eliminated. As have the second favourites, Tokyo. It's the day where they decide who is going to host. Between Madrid and Rio de Janeiro. I think it'll be the latter because London got 2012 so probably won't keep them in Europe. Shocked they didn't go to America though.

Woo, Rio deserves them :D Chicago, well, America aren't exactly foreigner friendly and people would ahte getting caught up in the anti-terrorism slogans and thoughts dashed around. Tokyo would of been cool and Madrid too, but Rio deffo deserve it :D

Congratulations to Rio. I would have preferred Tokyo though, that would have been amazing and I would have tried my best to go as an opportunity to go to Japan. :P

USA have hosted it a few times, including not long ago in 1996 so it made sense for them not to get it.

I wanted Tokyo to host it followed by Chicago, I don't see Rio hosting the best olympics.

We would be better off having the London Olympics in 2016 since the main stadium is apparently nowhere near completion.

You do realise that it's only 2009. There's still just under three years until the opening ceremony.

Why did the United States bid for it, they are just like us; financially and socially broke at this moment. Congratulations to Brazil!.

And apparently they reckon that they may struggle to get it done by that time...

On the London 2012 issue; we never had the money before we bid, we never had the money when we got the bid and we still don't have the money now. Gordon doesn't care though, its only our money afterall.
I wanted them to win out of Madrid and them. Thing is it's like the main city of rio and just up the hill is a massive slum. It's like two different worlds on each others doorsteps. The geography of rio basically means that it will be all over Brazil so yeah should be ok for their economy :)

Madrid was never going to get it with Europe having it in 3 years. Japan is near China and China just held one. America haven't long had one and only thought they could win 'cause they have Obama. Woop de doo. Rio are in the process of making a stadium anyway I think. Delving a bit into the unknown with Brazil. Bit of a dodgy place.

Seems like it's going quite well to me, I drive past it almost every day, unless that's not the main stadium. I think it is though and the main structure is up and 3 years to finish it is more than enough time. Some of the areas around Stratford have been cornered off for development, and from the pictures that they show they are going to be big developments and they haven't started yet and don't look like they will be done by 2012 but 3 years is a long time so who knows.

What makes you say they didn't want the olympics?
We've had a few stop-offs in the Chicago O'Hare Intl. airport in the past 1-2 years and each time they have had banners and signs advertising their bid for the olympics.
