Right, quite a long time ago I booted up my computer and it started making a beeping noise and wouldn't load. After that I removed my sticks of RAM and put them in. The middle one had one working clip and one broken clip at the bottom, but I put it in regardless; booted it up; smoke started coming out of the RAM slot and in result has left two black marks.
I took that out and turned on, the monitor said No Signal.
Any ideas on how to fix? :(
I dunno if it's the RAM.

If there was a fire in your PC, it's never going to work unless whatever caught fire is replaced.

There was no fire; just smoke.
No flames.
Turned it off straight away.

Download memtest86 (google will suffice for you) and burn it onto a CD. I think its an iso tbh, but yeah burn it onto a CD and run it from boot up.
Otherwise you can always download Prime95, but that will definetely spot an error regardless, cuz its a hardcore testing program. Just dl memtest86. Then you'll know whether its the RAM or not. Should know if its the RAM though, cuz your mobo will be like BEEP BEEP BEEP.
and yeah memtest tests only your RAM, so if it shows errors then you know its that.

Does it actually boot up and can you hear it run?
Because if you can, your GPU is screwed. Your mobo would normally beep if there was an error with RAM.

Dunno, I think so.
Haven't really tested it much.#
Edit;
It doesn't make the beeping noise now though when I start it.
It probably is running.

You havent tested it and yet you dive onto HxF thinking we know whats up with it? :rolleyes:
If its running, uhm... What graphics card do you have? Because if you have a spare computer, you may be good in trying to connect it to someone elses PC and see if it shows an image. Or even try connecting a different TV to it.

5 year old computer?
was running well.
i dont fink warrenty will cover it this time round.
Steam was coming out from the RAM slots and you think it's the graphics card that's broken? :S
Explain the situation - exactly what happened and exactly what you have done/what tests/what happens/lights up/makes sound when you try turning it on.

Ok Nick.
One stick of RAM basically fried, as smoke started coming out of it.
Turned it off from the back, and then booted it up didn't make the beeping noise, and sounded like it was running nice & quietly but it said on the screen;
'No Signal' :eusa_wall

Your motherboard is definitely broken

Does sound like the RAM might have also fried the motherboard too, have you taken the broken stick of RAM out?

Maybe he left the RAM in and thats still causing a problem? It might not be the MOBO

If there is no RAM, the motherboard will beep. If there is no beep, the motherboard is dead.
Is the CPU fan spinning?

Should be Stephen.
I'll get a spare power lead tomorrow out of some boxes from the cupboard and have a look inside.
And yes, I have took out the broken stick of RAM.
Well of cause it should be - the question is if it is actually spinning? :P
