What games are popular online on PC?

Im getting my new custom gaming pc next sunday, and I was just wondering what games are popular on it? I mean i'd fancy halo 2 but disappointing theres no halo 3 on pc yet, gears of war and again disappointing theres no gears 2 for pc yet, and obviously cod etc and css, but are gears and halo popular on multiplayer on pc at the moment?

That's the problem nowadays. PC Games are becoming obsolete. It's all about Xbox Live now. In my own opinion, MMORPG's are the only decent online games on PC's and maybe the odd Call of Duty.

Steam is quite good for playing games with other people, youll find quite alot of people on that.

The problem is with the PC gaming market is, they're not letting PC games connect to Xbox and PS3 servers, at allll. Seems a bit stupid.

And I think it should stay that way. Seriously, Mouse and Keyboard totally outclass the controller. I'd love to see a console vs PC COD match.

Team fortress 2 is pretty popular, halo was still popular last time I played (admittedly about 6 months ago).

Counter-Strike(1.6, CZ and Source), Team Fortress (1 and 2), Garry's Mod, Call of Duty, Left 4 Dead. May be some more but can't think of any at the moment.
