Is getting a iPhone really worth it? [Archive]

I am in no way an "apple fanboy", the only thing from Apple that I have only ever owned is an iPod.. but i love my iphone! There are so many different apps you can get. I'd recommend you getting one :)

Get an Android phone, it's app store isn't moderated by nazis, they have realistic cameras, compasses from the beginning, constant OTA updates etc.

The fact of the matter remains that even if the App Store is moderated by "Nazis" it still has way more applications. I develop apps for the store and I've personally had no problems with Apples process, at most its taken me about 2 weeks.

I'd personally get an iPhone, they are awesome.

Simple answer, yes. Get one, you won't be disappointed ~ but as stated above, wait until Christmas time-ish, it'll be on 2 other networks by then, and prices WILL come down, so just hold tight.

iPhone has some pretty good competition with Android, WebOS, Maemo 5 and WinMo 6.5. Actually I wouldn't mind having a a phone with all of those operating systems :(.

it's orange and vodafone.

the price of the phone might not drop much, if at all. but the prices of the contracts will drop a bit.

Yeah the contracts suck, if I were to get an iPhone I'd get a second hand one and a sim only contract because they're usually awesome. Some people don't get on with the keyboard either.

I have no experiences with an iPhone, but I have the touch. They're amazing pieces of technology but I have heard that the iPhone freezes alot, and lots of people complain about the contract they recieve.

Of course it's worth it, it's an iPhone. The best way to do it is to get one on pay as you go and put your own sim card in it so you get more minutes/texts. You won't be able to get free browsing (at least I don't think so) but can download app's or w/e with wifi. They are £538 if you get the better one, which I would advise you to get. I've had an iPhone since the very first day it came out, I've gone from the first one (8GB) to the second one (16GB 3G) and recently got the third one (32GB 3GS). And can tell you that it will be the best phone you have ever had and you will stick with iPhones for the foreseeable future.

I'd certainly look into other phones before getting the iPhone, it used to be far superior to anything in the market in terms of features and performance but that's no longer the case, some of the newer Android/WinMo devices are better and of course there's the BlackBerry Storm and Palm Pre (Coming to the UK very soon).

You also have the fact that there's no longer the whole "iPhone wow!" thing about them. Seeing as pretty much anyone who buys a new mobile phone seems to end up getting one, and they feature in every TV Show and Film. They're no longer anything special or something to show off about as you're just another person with an iPhone :P

I was also reading in the news this week that the prices will not come down much at all when they come to the UK on Orange and Vodafone. They're rumoured to be coming down about £5 on the most expensives contracts. Nothing worth waiting around for that's sure. Apple charge so much for the iPhones, believe it or not, the networks struggle to make profit on it, hence the high prices and why they won't be coming down.

Besides waiting for technology is ridiculous, you buy it when you want it, if you were to wait around for better products you'd never end up buying anything as technology is improving and getting cheaper all the time.

This argument is like the PS3 vs Xbox 360 argument. The G1/xbox are for the people that can't afford iPhones and PS3's. But still, your lucky to have a G1 - not a bad phone at all. ;)

I'm sorry but it's just true. The majority of people at my school have 360's and they all seem to have the 360 because the PS3 costs a considerable amount more. Do or don't believe me about that, either way I think you know that it's true (at least with 360's). Back on topic, G1's are very good phones, just not what I would call anywhere near as good as the iPhone. The iPhone has set the mark in touch screen/smart phones, any new touch screen phone that comes out is compared to the iPhone which I'm sure you can agree with me on. My dad has some new HTC phone which I believe is android. That phone in particular is to say the least crap. Feels like a plastic children's toy and the operating system on it is much more complicated than the iPhone. What makes the iPhone so good is how simple it is, the glass screen as opposed to a plastic touch screen kind of puts it in a league of it's own. Just holding it, feeling the quality, the simpleness of navigating it smoothly with a gentle touch of your finger. It's just a pleasure to use.

I can't be assed to read all of that, but the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 both cater to different games and markets. Price up the Xbox 360 with wireless adapter, wireless controller etc and it costs about the same as the PS3. The iPhone is a fashion accessory, not a device.

For the record I do own an iPod Touch and it is a fantastic device, unfortunately as stated before, the iPhone is on a crap contract.

I'm getting one in a couple of weeks, and I personally, tihnk they're brill. I haven't had first hand experience with Androids, so can't comment.

I might be a OS X user who will choose OS X and Macs over PCs 365 days of the year, but as the iPhone's $90 a month and a Windows Mobile phone is $55 a month then it's worthy enough for me ;).

You must go to quite a posh school then, everyone in the know about all the latest expensive phones. At my school it's just the iPhone that everyone seems to know about. I don't think I've ever heard someone speak of the G1. Tbh most people have the usual sony eriscsons so they don't really know many good phones.

I never said that only people who cannot afford the more expensive alternatives have the G1/360, just said that most (or at least I meant that). I've got a PS3, iPhone and a wii. I did have an xbox but sold it mainly to get the wii. I'm not against the G1 or xbox, I just think that they are nothing more than cheap alternatives.

your 'unlimited texts' is actually 1000 texts, and 400 minutes for £31.

mine is 500 texts, and 600 minutes and UNLIMITED INTERNET for £35. yes you get more texts, but i get more minutes, and i pay £4 more. when all is weight up, i only really pay about £6/7 more than you for what i get. and my iphones value when my contracts up will get me back the money i have lost anyway, when i sell my iphone in 6 months ill still get £200/£250 for it, if in good condition... so probably OVERALL i'd probably actually be saving money by getting an iphone, ather than a g1. can u do that with ur g1?

If I remember correctly he went to look at the car and put a deposit on it, while doing so took pictures and put them on his facebook. I'll get you a pic of my bro's car tomorrow, can write "Mint hxf" on a piece of paper and put it on the car or something? About my parents wealth, could take a pic of my mums 2010 model 59 reg range rover sport maybe? My dad sold the aston but would a pic of his bentley/porsche(s) suffice? Could own what you said so much. Then you will most likely call me a show off, but just remember who started this.
