I was going to start this thread on October 1st, which signals the official beginning of 'on season' in Eurovision terms, but I decided that I should wait until we have some actual news.

Today, Bulgaria announced their act - a rather attractive young chap who goes by the name Miro or Miroslav Kostadinov. He performs various genres includng dance and ballads.

Sweden have released the titles of the 27 songs in the final of their contest, and 175 songs the Swedish public can vote on for the 'web joker'. The 'web joker' will join four other wildcards and the 27 other songs in the Swedish selection, taking place on 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th February, with a second chance round on 6th March and the final on 13th March.

The United Kingdom will be entering (it'd be daft not to after a 5th place), but there is no news on that yet, so it's looking like a national final with six really average songs. I think it'd be better to do it like last year, because Jade's now gone onto bigger things and she's sort of got a career now.

27 countries have confirmed their participation in total. The final list will be released in December, with the draws for semi-finals (with the reveal of the theme and branding of the contest) taking place in January, the draws for running order in March and the contest itself on 25th, 27th and 29th May, in the Telenor Arena in Bærum, near Oslo.

A new feature of the contest was announced earlier this week: voting will begin at the start of the first song and close 15 minutes after the last song. The system has been implemented after being used for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2006 and has worked well, according to the televoting company and the EBU.

John and Edward, Nadine Coyle, Imelda May, B*Witched, Westlife and Boyzone are just some of the names being bet on for the title of Irish representative at ESC2010.

The strangest music event on European television takes place on November 21st in the form of the 7th annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest. 13 countries will take part in Kiev, Ukraine. It starts at 8:15 and can be watched on the official site (http://www.junioreurovision.tv). My favourite is the Belgian song with the yodelling, but the Belarussian song is favourite to win. Search 'Etis atis animatis' in YouTube. He's disturbed.

A rumour that's started circulating today is that old boyband A1 have been approached to enter the selection of Norway!

It would, but they failed to qualify with a good proper song, so they may as well send any old tripe.

A casting call has been published for the United Kingdom through Twitter. This means the format will probably be the same as last year. Rumours are floating around about who the songwriter could be this time and include: Gary Barlow, Elton John and Su Pollard. Out of those Gary Barlow looks like the most likely, and I think he's most able to get the UK a first place.
