Having used various builds since 6801, I can say I am totally in love with it and will no longer be going back to XP (that and x64 xp is awful).
It will be interesting to see the reports and what not after release, in comparison to Vista/ XP what not.

Yeh it was such a quick download.
Mine took 20-25minutes to download.
But that was because I had to boot it from the CD/DVD drive - as I went from 32 to 64bit. It tok a fair amount of time to load it to let you install :D

Wrong :P
To transfer data from one computer to another. Downloading usually refers to transfer from a larger "host" system (especially a {server} or {mainframe}) to a smaller "client" system, especially a {microcomputer} or specialised peripheral, and "{upload}" usually means from small to large. Others hold that, technically, download means "receive" and upload means "send", irrespective of the size of the systems involved. Note that in communications between ground and space, space-to-earth transmission is always "down" and the reverse "up", regardless of size. So far the in-space machines have invariably been smaller; thus the upload/download distinction has been reversed from its usual sense.

Yeh I actually removed that earlier on Matt. I was half way through writing it saying if it was hundreds of popunds, but decided someone would probably have a problem with me if i said it haha.
But yweh considering it is for British people as a whole, dirt cheap. Recession or no recession, £30 for something you casn use for years on end it dirt cheap.

Right, I'm off to another forum to metaphorical slap someone in the face who suggested Windows 7 wouldn't install and would be as buggy as hell. Has anyone noticed weird things happening with their machines? It might be that windows.old file the clean install made. I seem to have a few pages of my firefox history still around and it added a load of things that shouldn't of been added. I believe the Upgrade version can be fully installed without it even knowing about XP or Vista? (I've heard reports of this, look around on the net)
Edit: Been looking on another forum and found this:
One of the biggest unanswered questions about Windows 7 is whether you can perform a clean install using the upgrade edition of the operating system.
With legacy versions of Windows you needed to ‘show’ it an install CD from your older version of Windows. The problem here is that Microsoft allowed OEM PC makers to customise these discs, sometimes to the point where they were not recognisable as upgrade media by the installer, even though you had a legitimate copy.
With Windows Vista they changed this but you had to perform a workaround to get a clean install. Firstly you had to install Vista upgrade without entering a product key, and then you had to install it again performing an upgrade on the version you had already installed. This was time-consuming and many people didn’t like it… understandably.
With Windows 7 Microsoft have only released the upgrade versions for the first time today and have been keeping very tight-lipped on this subject. The good, nay, excellent news is that performing a clean install using upgrade media is now the same as performing a clean install.
Windows 7 will just install merrily on your hard disk with it’s upgrade product code and activate. You don’t need an XP or Vista disc, and you don’t need to install it over itself. This is excellent news and, while I haven’t yet tried this myself, reports are coming in from across the web that this is indeed the case.
Many people will now ask if it’s necessary to buy the full version of Windows 7. Quite simply now the answer is that it isn’t. This means an significant price cut for Windows 7 over previous versions, effective immediately.
Been reading more, I think there is ways but now sure how it all works. I suggest throwing yourself over to: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/30826-clean-install-upgrade-version-2.html and see if your answer if fully answered there. :)

I like how the poor, family-less and hippy like Mac man is still the same as ever :P If Apple want those adverts to mean something, then what you can extract from those ads is that PC has a loving, obedient family. Mac doesn't. PC is successful in his line of work. Mac is a lay about. PC doesn't lie. Mac lies. PC is smart. Mac is thick as pig crap. The "problem" with Vista is that the majority of people who hated it had never tried it and was joining the bandwagon on what they had heard. I remember that video someone made where they disguised Vista OS to be a different one and then they said their thoughts about it and then it was revealed that they were using Vista.
To be perfectly honest with you, I love Vista as an OS, yes it was released a little too early but at least Microsoft tried to make it better over the years it was out.

It's a fiasco for Apple when they preach "It just works", especially when they appear cocky and arrogant about it :P It's funny to see them mess up, especially back when Microsoft had to bail them out of bankruptcy and you see a grovelling Steve Jobs getting boo'd at by Apple worshippers. It's one of those events you hope to see happen again, the tears coming from alot of the minority of "extremist" Apple users would be lol worthy :P
And your last paragraph was a contradiction in terms, but I'll let you off ;)
"It just works yet you have half the problems" suggest it doesn't "just work" - it has fewer problems, though it varies on user intelligence mixed with quality of hardware and expertise anyway. Not had a single problem with 7 yet, the webcam installed itself in a matter of seconds last night :D

It just works as in it's fast and reliable. It has problems that don't really affect how fast it is, or reliable, as the problems are things like the over exaggerated guest account issue, which had absolutely zero affects on the majority of Mac users.

And I've heard from a few people Snow Leopard was terrible when first installed, appearing slower than the previous version (Leopard?) and glitchy. Some uninstalled it and left it for a few days to wait and see if any updates fixed these issues. WIll have to see if they fixed this issue come to think of it :/ What's also bad is that it appears (from what I saw on Apple's website) that Snow Leopard can only be installed on Intel Macs? That's kinda bad - are there other companies that gave limitations on what machines they can be installed on? Just wondering :) Of course, this only effected a small group, but considering the machines aren't custom made or diverse as Linux or PC machines, it seemed a bit dodgy they had quite major issues.
And it's still quite a bad issue, true, no-one uses a guest account, but for such a small, insignificant feature, it's terrible that it was removing personal files without question - which is a big thing.
Anyway, my argument is with Apple and their dodgy slogans and terrible advertising, not with their users as it is their choice. It's mainly because they seem to not comment on things going wrong, yet **** off other companies. At least with Microsoft they say what their Operating System(s) can do, without the need of a belittling remark on the competition :P It seems to be how I buy products now, iPods **** off the competition, while Creative and Zunes don't and they just advertise their features with facts, not slander.

Apple didn't introduce any of these and the chnaces are Vista would of not existed or worked out better. History might of changed alot. At least we won't have a company that's only ground for advertising is to put down the competition, which at the same time makes Apple look stupid :P Seriously, their ads have these hidden messages of how wonderful a Mac is in comparison to a PC, yet you could draw your own conclusions from the videos - PC is successful and Mac isn't. That's how I understood the ads at least :P It's shocking they made those ads in the first place.
Well it's working perfectly fine for me, and the other 20 mac users I've been speaking to...
I'm not denying it doesn't work for everyone, I'm just saying that it has a few errors which have effected people, quite badly too for a company that has this air of "perfection" and skilled craftsmanship. Another argument with the company, and not the users :P

For the wrong reasons. If anything, they're successful in making Apple look stupid. The cultural implications on YouTube and in real life suggest this - Linux getting involved making PC and Mac look stupid (there's a South Park one I think?) and there are a few where PC users point out the obvious and have PC look super powerful. The Mac side of the ads seem some what untouched.

Even Apple's harshest critic would have to agree that Apple completely revolutionized the mobile music and phone industry. Though some of their ads are horrible. I like some of them because they're funny, but their latest one saying you can expect problems in Win7 is just stupid.
As far as what you said about Apple putting down the competition, Microsoft's ads do that as well, and Microsoft got sued by their own government for bullying several other companies including Apple over IE:P.
I'm not denying it doesn't work for everyone, I'm just saying that it has a few errors which have effected people, quite badly too for a company that has this air of "perfection" and skilled craftsmanship. Another argument with the company, and not the users :P
Yeah the consequence is absolutely horrible, I agree. I'm just saying it will affect next to no people;).
Some people are cheap skates and don't want to upgrade, and aren't the old non-Intel Macs not very old at all?
Some people are cheap skates (like me) and don't want to get Windows 7 because I like XP. But they will forever be ridiculed (MATT GARNER:() for using something old (MATT GARNER:(:(:().
or the wrong reasons.
To each his own. I think the ads were a good business move for Apple.
Depends if the SL word is considered swearing :P
Well according to those Mac vs PC ads you love so much the REAL swear word here is Vista:O

The thing that really gets me about Mac users (this isn't aimed at you Dave) is that some websites have been going on about Windows 7 and saying its crap points. When they haven't even bloody used it or know what they are talking about. One site posted a video about Windows 7 crashing on some TV show. When it clearly didn't, the lady could move the mouse but he touch screen wasn't working. That would not be the OS it would be the touch screen being that crap or someone didn't turn it on.

Windows and Mac users do that all the time. I swear 1/2 of the people who are insulting OS X have never used it, or have "used it in school" for a total of 10 minutes to surf the internet:rolleyes:.

I have used both for periods of time, and I am not saying Mac is crap - far from it - but Windows isn't bad either

Also LOL @ U HOTELUSER.
Backward compatibility
Some users switching from Windows 9x (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_9x) to XP disliked its lack of DOS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOS) support. Although XP comes with the ability to run DOS programs in a virtual DOS machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_DOS_machine), it still has trouble running many old DOS programs. This is largely because it is a Windows NT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT) system and does not use DOS as a base OS, and that the Windows NT architecture is different from Windows 9x. Some DOS programs that cannot run natively on XP, notably programs that rely on direct access to hardware, can be run in emulators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emulator), such as DOSBox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOSBox), or virtual machines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine), like VMware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VMware), Microsoft Virtual PC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Virtual_PC) or VirtualBox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirtualBox).

Tom, XP was like a mini Vista when it came out. It's been out for so long I don't think compatibility is an issue any more.

I think it's starting to have compatibility issues nowadays because XP drivers are starting to be phased out, especially for Vista laptops (take mine for example, I put XP on it once and it kept crashing on me because the driver were non existent or outdated.

I agree with your first comment about people sticking with Vista, and it's not exactly hard to upgrade, I know computer illeterate people in real life that have gone from Vista > 7 and done a clean install too.
But the XP thing... Wow. So surely Vista will follow the same life cycle, it will have compatibility issues, become the "now" OS and then die through old compatibility, that is, if people don't upgrade. Although, I can't apply this to Windows 7 because I would class it under the "Vista" type of OSs, it's just taking a **** product and making it better, so it probably won't have the compatibility issues, after all, MS were nice enough to give you a free XP license with it ;)

I get a free upgrade voucher with the HP, and I will order it as soon as I get back from my holiday. But going to wait until I need to reinstall before installing, as I've only just finished loading everything onto the thing, and I currently need the machine for coursework.
Plus it appears HP dont have too many drivers for it yet. W7 does look amazing though

I thought the latest norton (2010) was actually decent
Incoming flame :P
Although I prefer Microsoft Forefront Security - it just works, don't even notice it, updates without hassle, easily manageable in a network. Does a full system scan automatically and I don't even notice its running (In fact I only noticed it was doing full system scans daily when I actually started playing around with the config).
