Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has signed a new five-year deal with the Premier League club that will keep him at Eastlands until 2014. Kompany, 23, was signed from German side Hamburg in August 2008.
The Belgium international missed the start of the season after having foot surgery for a toe problem and made his return to first-team action on Sunday.
"Vincent is a model professional who has proved his worth in a variety of positions," said City boss Mark Hughes.
Kompany played in both midfield and defence last season and made 45 appearances for the Premier League club, scoring once.

He also captained the side and Hughes is in no doubt that Kompany will further aid City's assault on the top four supremacy of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.
"He has been desperate to get back into action and in fact we have had to hold him back a little since his operation in the summer, such was his desire to return to action," said Hughes.
"But that is the kind of lad that he is. He is still only 23-years-old but is so mature in his outlook; that is why I made him captain last season on occasions.
"He wants to improve, he is ambitious and he is desperate for success. He was one of our most reliable performers last season and it is great that we have been able to secure his services for the next five years.
"It is another sign of our commitment to young talent. Vincent is a big part of our future."
Kompany had been linked with a move away from Eastlands, with Barcelona one of the clubs reportedly interested in the 23-year-old, but he is pleased that speculation about a move away can now be ended.
"In the end you just don't pay attention to the speculation. City's ambitions are my ambitions and I want to be one of the main players in a very big team," said Kompany.
"I am happy to be here, the fans are incredible so why would I want to go elsewhere."
When I stood by him and said that he should get into the City squad no matter how big the or good the squad becomes, quite a few people were against me (not naming any names), and they all told me he would have no chance. Well now he's signed five years so we can see who was right after all. :) Even Barcelona are interested in him and he has a loads more years to develop a lot more. I'm so glad to see him deffinately looking to stay in the squad and not get sold. One of the best performing players I have ever seen play in our side. I'm so happy right now. :D

Brilliant player. With all the money City spent he still deserves a place in their team. Just does all the simple things so well:eusa_clap

You're about 2 weeks too late but even still, I can't see him getting much football next term if this stupid transfer thing is still going on with City.

Toure - Kompany - Lescott - Bridge
Would be my back till January then it'd be
Maicon/Sagna - Toure - Kompany - Bridge
Evens it out. But yeah this old but oh well.

You really think you have a chance of getting Sagna/Maicon? I don't think so. You'd be better off going for Ramos.

City will buy big in the winter... you all know it's going to happen, and tbh, I hope they do, gives us something good to talk about.

Actually I'd say it was the other way around. Wwell kind of. Ramos I can't see leaving Madrid. Sagna I can't really see leaving Arsenal but I said that about Toure so you never know. Maicon, well if Inter don't win anything this season then I can see it happening but they should win the Italian League really. I'd say Lahm is a good good bet. Munich can't keep hold of him forever, and he is a great RB. One of the top 5 in the world. Plus, City can afford to bid big.
As annoying as I think Lescott is, I don't think he would be benched. I'd say next season your first team might look like:
Given
Lahm - Toure - Lescott - Bridge
SWP - De Jong - Barry - Robinho/Silva/Ribery
Tevez - Adebayor
Wouldn't suprise me if Robinho went to Barca and City bought Ribery/Silva although I rate Robinho quite high so either would be good. I'd say from that lineup, next out would be Bridge.

I can see this being our team come January or end of summer.
------------------ Given -------------------
Maicon ----- Kolo ------- Lescott --- Bridgey
------------------ Yaya -------------------
---------- Stevie ------- Gaz Baz ----------
------ Tevez --------------- Ribery --------
---------------- Adebayor -----------------
Sounds like Maicon could be leaving & Yaya and Kolo want to play together.

Same rumour went round when Kolo was at Arsenal.

It's a fair shout. I really do think you will sign Ribery in the summer. You are gonna curse me for saying this, but I can see Ireland being replaced and Bridge being replaced. Don't ask why, I just think it'll happen, whilst you have money you can always improve.

I'd say it's quite realistic. Although I'd put De Jong in there instead of stevie and where has SWP gone ;o. Yaya would leave if Fabregas went to Barca as Fabregas would take his place in the first team but I don't think Fabregas will go there for ages. Ribery, even though I said it's a possibility I still think that it will take a lot to get him there but it wouldn't surprise me.

Can't see Bridge being replaced. He's been class this year with Bellamy on the left. It allows Bridge to come forward, he's got a beautiful cross in him! Ribery would be a decent replacement for Robinho and (dare I say it) suit the team more because he tracks back more and plays like Tevez (but running all over the park).
Can see Robbie going to Barca, I would of been a bit upset however Bellamy has been wonderful so far. We have two options -
Play Robbie (a world class talent) and have a huge threat going upfront on SOME matchdays if he decides to turn up and remove Bridge from the game.
Play Bellamy/Ribery. Have a big threat going forward near enough week in week out and allow Bridge to come forward
Without Robbie playing Bridge has been class because he knows he has a player infront of him who will track back.
Think Yaya will be part of the Robbie package considering we don't need the money. Money + Yaya for Robbie and it's a deal as far as most City fans are concerned.
Can't really see Ireland being replaced. Hughes just needs to work out how to play him. Last year he was wonderfull because he was more attacking, this year when he's played he's been more defensive. If we play that team I think we could see the best of Ireland.

Aparently the deal Barca are prepared to do was origionally, Henry and money for him. But Henry doesn't want to go to City for obvious reasons so Yaya might be the man. They need to replace Yaya though so will either buy Fabregas or might even get De Jong/Kompany in a deal. I know kompany signed recently but doesn't stop him from going.

I don't think they will go for Ramos he is awful but Madrid think he is amazing :S They won't want to sell him

I can see Robinho going to Barcelona, and Puyol, Abidal or Yaya coming to City with about £15m added on. That's if any of them players want to join us though, which I really can't see unless it is a huge wage packet ontop of tax lol.

I'd say that Fabregas is more of a replacement for Iniesta or Xavi. Yaya is a CDM and Fabregas doesn't have his strength or tackling ability. They should go in for Essien or Ballack should Yaya want to leave.

I thought it would've been money and Rob for Yaya... Yaya is arguably the best CDM in the world, and seems to be untouchable. And you think a player who has been kept out of his team by a no-neck Welshman is worth the same as, if not more than him?
Oh and Stefan, just how old does that make Puyol at the end of the contract?

Makes him 34 I think. Also, Yaya I wouldn't say is the best, probably top 5. De Rossi, Essien, Cambiasso are all arguably better. Also, they don't need a CDM. They ideally want Fabregas, Xavi and Iniesta to play well together at one point. Not sure if it will happen. No doubt Fabregas will go but I have a feeling it will be when Xavi retires in 4-5 years time. Fabregas, Iniesta and Xavi in midfield, clearly the best in the world. Ibra, Messi and Robinho upfront is clearly the best too. Amazing team they'd have.
Robinho is better than Toure if he is used properly. Robinho is young and is arguably one of the quickest and most skillful players in the world. He just needs to be in a team which he can use this to the most which is Barca alongside Messi and Ibra.

Nah. No one bosses the match as well as him. Essien and Masch come close. Cambiasso is ageing and De Rossi does a different job I'd say. If they lose Yaya they wont need a CDM? So Barca's team would be
---Goalie---
---------Defence---------
--------------------------
--Iniesta -- Fab -- Xavi --
Messi -----Ibra ----- Henry
?
You need a balance for all that attacking creativity, that is Yaya's job. Because Yaya is there, Iniesta and Xavi have that freedom to get forward. But then, I guess an Arsenal fan won't have seen a decent CDM since Vierra. :P
Yaya adds so much more to the team than Rob. Rob can be replaced with Henry, Bojan, Perrota and the rest of these quality players coming through the Catalan club's ranks. And to say the youngsters are pushing Henry for a place says something. What Yaya does is a very fine art, and he is a master of it.

De Rossi and Cambiasso are very much Holding midfielders lol. Also, Barca are looking to buy Fabregas at the moment. They won't bench Xavi or Iniesta so it makes sence that they will play all 3. No offence but I don't think that Toure will be put on the first team over Fabregas. Toure is a good player, no doubt about it but I wouldn't rank him as the best CDM in the world. Fabregas and Xavi are central midfielders and Iniesta is an attacking midfielder, so it would balance out very much. Before Yaya was in the Barca team it was Xavi who would go back and defend a bit and without Yaya the same thing would probably happen.
Also, Robinho is a rare talent too. I think if he was properly nurtured, not passed from club to club he could be up there with Ronaldo and Messi. Probably not that good but he has the similar skills as them. Barca are looking for a LW to replace Henry hence why origionally Henry was in the deal. If Barca bought Fabregas and Robinho then they would no doubt have the best team in the world which arguably they already have.
By the way, with the whole current Barca team, Yaya is struggling to get first team football as it is with the likes of Keita (sp.), Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets (sp.) e/c/t. He's played 6 out of the 11 games for Barca this season.
I recon it will be best for Yaya to move away to a club where he gets first team football everyday, a good team would be Munich/AC Milan or even Arsenal to be honest as we need someone like him.
