If everytime I broke a rule, I pm'd the moderator abuse for about half an hour after, started up hate campaigns against the moderators personally, slagging off their appearance and their friendships, if I got cautioned for this, yet continued to make a public display saying how crap I think moderation is and how management are wrong for punishing me for it, I'd get permanently banned and I know a lot of other users on this forum who would too. You know precisely what point i'm making, unfair much?

This aint a complaint about a certain user btw

yeah, some people get off very lightly. i abused the report system to try make a point, not the best idea but a lot better than continuously attacking the staff. i still got cautioned for this whereas i'm pretty sure some people wouldn't, i didn't carry it on but explained myself nicely & got uncautioned. there are people who get cautioned and carry it on but don't receive further punishment for it when they really should.

to be permed in the majority of cases (excluding exceptional/obvious circumstances) you need 10 infractions. if someone is constantly insulting the moderation department then they will pick up the infractions until they have 10 and then bang, permed.

Depends how they are doing it really, if it's direct in posts then yeah you go about it like this.

If a user is doing a lot in a short space of time and needs dealing with quicker then manual bans come into play, usually from forum management.

yeah which is why i added the bit in brackets. i think i can guess who this is about and i agree with OP - if you're cautioned you should at least behave rather than continuing violating the rules that you were originally cautioned for. however, if any member was that bad they would have 7/8 infractions or w/e it is and be temp banned surely.

Can't comment on the individual case you're referring to unfortunately but yes that is the usual case.

However sometimes the mod team are too leniant (contrary to popular belief) and the right infractions aren't handed out. Sometimes mods don't report the abuse to a Smod in time so an infraction can't be handed out, etc. Sometimes mods feel too threatened to act, so they forward to higher authorities and higher authorities tend to use more manual punishment than the autosystem.

It does take a very long time to deal with people using the autoban system. I think I'm allowed to give an example of a banned user, but take Wootzeh for example, he was dealt with perfectly by the autoban system because he wasnt a permanent nuisance.

Sometimes when users are dealt with for being a permanent, persistant nuisance the manual ban system comes in as even the autoban system may take too long.

I know all of that is garbled but I'm tired and on a very old PC.

Nearly 16k posts jake!

Generally speaking about users in general. :p

Yeah I like to give people a chance at least to see if they are decent enough to see the error of their ways and make amends upon it, I won't tell them they have a chance to resolve it, as frankly I shouldn't have to.

If they don't see the error of their ways then I would probably consider permanent ban.
