all the new phones have it, but i was wondering if it is totally free to use because i saw on a phone companies contract that there was unlimited wifi, but i thought because it is a phone feature like bluetooth that it would be free anyway - thought it might just be something to try and make their contact look better?

thanks,

Yeah I believe you are right to some extent, it's just put in there to sound better than it is. However companies like 02 offer Wifi Hotspots in various places and so do their partners. Presumably this is unlimited use too.

If at all possible, always use Wifi over 3G/HSPDA because it's pretty much always faster.

You will get Wifi free, no matter what, If the phone has Wifi built in it will be free.

People have trouble defining the difference between 3G internet and Wi-fi internet.

3G Internet - You will not have to connect to a hotspot (i.e your router) you can connect to the 3G internet anywhere in the country. (providing you have good signal) - Depending on the phone/contract you get you may get this free, or you may have to pay, check before you purchase any phone or contract.

Wi-Fi internet - You will have to connect to a wireless hotspot, e.g. Home router. This is FREE. The phone company will NOT charge you for wi-fi connectivity, if it is built in to the phone, it WILL be free.

Usually if the phone company says this then they will provide you with a username and password to use with WiFi hotspots in Hotels, airports etc for example.
