I thought I'd write this post just to make people more aware about something that I feel very passionately about, and that is non-league football.

For those of you who don't know, non-league football in England is football played in the leagues under the English League 2. The top flight of non-league football in England is the Blue Square Premier.

Most of you reading this will support a Premiership or higher league club. In all honesty, that's your choice, no questions asked. But, for those of you who support clubs that are not based locally, meaning you can't attend games easily, I ask you to give non-league football a chance. It is more than likely that nearby to you, there will be a non-league team, wanting new supporters to come and watch them.

Watching a non-league team in action could potentially change your attitude to football for the better. The whole club, including fans, and the team itself, is like a big family.. The club takes care of its fans as people, not just a click of the turnstile.

You may think 'Ergh, non-league football, what a load of rubbish!'. Well, I have to admit, the quality of the football may not be as good as Man United or Liverpool, but the atmosphere created by passionate supporters that can go to every game to follow their club is something incredible. Also, there are undiscovered talents playing for lower league clubs. For example, Russell Hoult, an ex-Kettering (my club) goalkeeper, ended up playing for West Brom when they were in the Premier League a couple of years ago.

Thanks for reading my post, and hopefully this has encouraged you to at least give non-league football a chance. Who knows, you could really enjoy it...

I gave non-league football a chance and 10 years later we're in the Championship playing at St.James' Park.

You suport Newcastle? Or you support a team in the championship, thus playing at St James' Park?

I support my local team, Peterborough United, got our first win yesterday afternoon, against S****horpe :)

Okay. When, in the last 10 years, have Newcastle been non-league?

I was born in Liverpool but now my local team would be Tranmere. Not sure what non-league teams there are around me though.

I was playin footy in the park last week and there was an organised game on, we stopped to watch it a few times because it was really good.

The atmosphere's have been much better this season but its probably because they are playing Luton who are a much bigger club than most of the others. Like you say the standard of football is poor with most teams using big 6 ft strikers and just knocking it up to them. The standard of referees is also shocking. Its nice to be playing these clubs but i think i can only handle it for a season.

Yeah they certainly know how to wind the crowds up and get on the wrong side of both sets of fans! We're coming to your place in a couple of weeks, 1500 we are rumoured to be getting and will easily fill that. looking forward to it! :)

I doubt the police will allow us to drink in grays anyway, most of the grounds we've been to this season especially Oxford made us drink in Thame about 20 minutes away. :@

Funny you should mention non-league clubs. I recently only just watched Fleetwood FC vs Kidderminster in the fourth qualifying round for the F.A Cup this Saturday with my cousin and uncle. The result was 0-0 and the replay is set for Tuesday in Fleetwood, but I can't stay over my cousins to watch it because I'm off to watch City play S****horpe on Wednesday. :(

Non-league football is actually really good, and this must have been my fourth or fifth time watching Fleetwood FC. The fans are really close together and suprisingly the chairman for Fleetwood is too. He's going to buy a £4m new stand and he supposedly has around £40m, yet every match I have been to he has been in the stands with the fans, just chating away with any of them who watch the game with him. He even took the coach back with them!

The ironic thing that many of their fans have been saying, is that they are the 'Manchester City' team of the Blue Square North league due to the money their chairman owns compared to other clubs in their league. :P The game was amazing for me to watch, and I really got into it. Even though the result was only 0-0, I still found it to be a brilliant match and its just a shame I'm unable to watch the replay on Tuesday. :( Seriously to others though, you should give it a try, the atmosphere can be amazing depending on the team you watch, because the home fans of Kidderminster were poor, and the first noise they made was the shout for handball in the second half! The Fleetwood fans were amazing though and the songs were so funny. :D

Used to watch my town side play quite a bit a while back when Cardiff were away and we didn't go. They're in the Welsh 2nd division. Go to watch their U-17s at all home games and some away aswell but that's just 'cause I know all the players.
