Bloody hell. I think these are the most confusing cases because if the boy has a mental disorder, you can't just say lock him up and throw away the key, no matter how much we'd like to.
This bit made me lol slightly;
In the hours before the rampage, Callaghan lost three consecutive games of Fifa 2008, playing at home against his younger brother and a friend.
Thats sad :(
what a loser srsly

That could go both way - lock him up in a hospital and throw away the key? :P
It's freaky how many murders and attacks there have been related to gaming, but this is the first one that's football related :S

It's nothing to do with video games as such. His condition just causes him to get extremely angry and violent with little to no reason. I noticed a comment on the article that summed this up pretty well;
In specific regard to the article; i find it both insulting to the poor people affected by this person's actions as well as the general public reading stuff like this that the Daily Mail feel the need to take a story about a mentally unstable individual's terrible behavior resulting in tragic consequences, only to use it as a ploy to further the publications war on video games.
The fact that he lost a few games of FIFA or that he had GTA in his game collection has literally nothing to do with this.

Ah I see, well that said then - it was just one of those events where those involved were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And that comment by a reader is true, the Daily Mail are just trying to make these few individuals, who do have serious mental issues, look evil and discusting - and using the games is stupid, when any sort activity could trigger it. Are the Daily Mail suggesting this boy is literally tied to a plank? Because the way they're over-reacting they may as well be (in their eyes) :P
The Daily Mail are in alot of trouble lately, one of their article writers wrote an article about that singer who died (can't remember the band, Blue?) and clearly suggested he died because he was gay. The article was re-written a few times, and each version was as bad as the other :P

The Mail wrote nothing of his sexuality involving his death, that is why on the news and other medias outlets they couldn't quote any part of the article because it made no references joining the fact he was gay upto his death. The complaints that were recieved were yet again from the politically correct brigade and fans of Stephen Gately who would take offence over the smallest suggestions, just as we saw from Michael Jackson when he turned from child fiddler to saint MJ. The article suggested his death was very strange for such a young age and that perhaps his lifestyle (drinking, clubbing etc) contributed to his death. I see nothing homophobic of that, and even if the article was suggesting the fact he was gay contributed to his death, who cares because we've all heard worse things in life which involve slander and so on.
On the issue of this case, yes the boy needs locking up. He is either insane or is just evil, in either case he is a danger to the general public and needs locking up for life, very rarely does a leopard change its spots.

Dan, I'm not saying anything about the Daily Mail (my dad read it every day for the last few years he lived for some reason), but you must admit that article was disgraceful.

I didn't read the article but the quotes that were used on the news as the apparent lines which had caused the complaints; as far as I see it had no homopobic elements in, if you could prove me wrong with some quotes from that article then i'd welcome it.

You have to read the article to understand where the idea the article is somewhat homophobic comes from. About half way through the comment about him coming out because someone was going to sell him out was acknowledged, which was fine and factual, but then it turns sour when it says:
Whatever the cause of death is, it is not, by any yardstick, a natural one. Let us be absolutely clear about this. All that has been established so far is that Stephen Gately was not murdered.
And I think if we are going to be honest, we would have to admit that the circumstances surrounding his death are more than a little sleazy.
After a night of clubbing, Cowles and Gately took a young Bulgarian man back to their apartment. It is not disrespectful to assume that a game of canasta with 25-year-old Georgi Dochev was not what was on the cards.
Cowles and Dochev went to the bedroom together while Stephen remained alone in the living room.
Which suggests "his 'secret' gay lifestyle" was the cause, what he did in the hotel with his partner and this other man is suspicious and "sleazy". Then it goes on to suggests that there is a "happy-ever-after" myth of civil partnerships, which can only be implied as "same-sex partnerships are never happy" which is probably one of the homophobic remarks to upset people:
What happened before they parted is known only to the two men still alive. What happened afterwards is anyone's guess.
A post-mortem revealed Stephen died from acute pulmonary oedema, a build-up of fluid on his lungs.
Gately's family have always maintained that drugs were not involved in the singer's death, but it has just been revealed that he at least smoked cannabis on the night he died.
Nevertheless, his mother is still insisting that her son died from a previously undetected heart condition that has plagued the family.
Another real sadness about Gately's death is that it strikes another blow to the happy-ever-after myth of civil partnerships.
Gay activists are always calling for tolerance and understanding about same-sex relationships, arguing that they are just the same as heterosexual marriages. Not everyone, they say, is like George Michael.
So yeah, the Daily Mail had quite a dodgy article on their website, suggesting civil partnerships and the homosexual lifestyle kills off people.

I don't find that homophobic at all, are we all that sensitive now that whenever somebody disagrees with a civil partnership they are automatically named homophobic? - on his death, that was quite sleazy, he died while (from what I gather) his boyfriend and another man were having sex while he was there, or in the other room - that isn't a good death or a normal death by all means, especially when hes in his early 30s'.
The Mail is known to be opposed to civil partnerships as it is a right wing paper and is supportive of the classic idea of family life. It is like when Nick Griffin said on Question Time that 'most people find the idea of two men kissing creepy' - well its true, most people do find it creepy and its time people stopped believing in this culture of 'happy happy land' that Labour has painted and acknowledge the facts.

She doesn't disagree with just civil partnerships, she disagrees with the whole lifestyle and idea of homosexuality - so she's automatically stupid. She's even more of a lousy article writer, considering there are mixed fews and the point it puts across seems note-based at best :/ It's the fact she seems to be suggesting civil partnerships and homosexuality in any form kills off those involved :P

That's because The Daily Mail is The Sun trying to be a broadsheet. I'm surprised they didn't try and blame this on immigrants. I guess they did choose the next best thing, a football video game.

To be fair, the girls who are attracted to the homoinferiors tend to be borderline chavist anyway :P That's what Jeremy Kyle has taught me at least, as with other things (never take advice from an ex-cannabis user etc etc).
