"Matt peered over the banister from the top of the stairs. A gust of icy wind blew up from the darkness that made his neck hair stand on end. Reluctantly he began the long descent. Matt began to feel increasingly alone and frightened as he moved deeper into the darkness. Suddenly, Matt's fear turned to terror as he heard footsteps on the stairs above him... he was still being followed. His eyes bulging with fright and his mouth agape in a silent scream Matt flew down the remaining stairs as fast as his legs would carry him. He reached the bottom and desperately looked around for an escape route. He spotted a faint light coming from a door ahead of him. The basement was the last place Matt wanted to go, but realising it was his only option, he had to escape. His heart thumped loudly in his chest. Relief washed over him as he noticed a small window leading towards a garden. What was he going to do?"
