I have a Dell Inspiron mini 900 netbook. When I have the charger plugged into my laptop it will turn on and work fine, but when I plug the charger out, my laptop wont turn on and will immediately turn off if the laptop is on. The battery power stays at 25% all the time. I cant buy a new battery bacause I dont have the money. I won the laptop, so i dont have a warranty  Oh and could you please try and keep answers simple :D Im useless when it comes to computers. :(

The battery has blown from where you have over charged it previously... Dell Laptops do this alot - 4 out of 4 dell laptops I have had, all the batteries have died.

Unfortunately the only solution is to buy a new battery.

No it hasn't, you don't "overcharge" a battery, I leave my MacBook and UMPC ones left in charging overnight everysingle night for 8+ hours.

Laptop batteries eventually lose their ability to hold charge, as does EVERY rechargable Li-on battery. But yes, the solution is to buy a new one.

I've only had the laptop for about 4 months... Thanks for the help, +Rep.

Hmm, that doesn't sound right, it would normally take a couple of years to lose charge, it sounds like something else could be wrong.

Mine only took about 10/12 months to stop charging.

The only solution is a new battery. Trust me, I know they can be expensive (for my dv6, they're 100 quid each from HP) but it's the best thing to do.

Even though you have "won it in a competition" you still under the law have a warrenty, as Dell don't really care as long as you to them are the first registered user, contact them, see what they say

Battery are not always under the warranty either, mine wasn't when mine decide it had died, However, i moaned to dell about how may problems i have had with the laptop and they gave one for free. You just have to send hours on the phone with them!

Thanks, yeah i'll try complaining to dell and if that doesnt work I'll just have to put up with my laptop being plugged into the charger all the time I suppose.

Get a new battery, its the easiest solution.

It's possible it might be a laptop issue. My laptop has this exact same problem, and it appeared the "battery is incompatible" - how that's possible I don't know :P It depends if Dell have their own update system seperate to Windows Update (like Sony VAIO have a VAIO update service).

You need to be careful, my Dell stopped recharging for alternative reasons. My motherboard was feeding back power to the power adapter and zapping them :P.

According to saynoto0870 Dell's support number is 01344 373186 much cheaper than their 0844 number. Just ask for technical support. Give them a ring and see what they say. Of course the agent will want to help you (its programmed into the call centre operators from overseas)
