Sounds like a line issue. If you dial 0800 169 0199 do you hear crackling (Don't worry its the BT status line for BT broadband) If so its a line fault which you need to report to your phone operator (Usually 150 from your landline)

Now if the line is clear, There maybe a kink in the cable from the router to the master socket (Is your Router plugged directly into the master socket or through an extension?) Have you checked this? If there is a kink in the cable, Maybe try a different cable, or try plugging directly into a master socket and trying again. If there is no kinks and no damage to the cable try another ADSL filter.

Oh before I forget, If its connected through an extension, is the extension before or after the filter?

Once all this has been checked and no issues found, Its time to call Technical Support Services at Sky/Easynet (If your not the account holder don't even try as they ask account related questions for "security") their number (open 8am-8pm) is 0800 0287855 option 3. They may ask you to use the test socket to see if this improves the issue. If not, Easynet will go into your exchange and check your line and then get back to you (Usually within 72hrs) with a resolution. (Which may mean they send a new modem etc)

At the moment ive plugged my router directly into my master socket and have tried 2 different rj11 cables and have tryed different ADSL filters too. My phone is crackling like HELL. My dad rang BT a while back and they did a line test and they said it was fine. Ive also tried it in the test socket and again - no luck.

Ill have to pursade my dad to ring up sky.

Thanks for your help +rep

Crackling like hell?

Means line fault matey, Try unplugging everything (Try a new ADSL filter) with no extensions (unplug everything except the router and phone and adsl filter) if it resolves it, Then issue is on your end not between you and the exchange, Check each connection by readding them one by one.

Why ring BT up to get some guy in India tell you the line is great? do it online at http://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/?page_id=furl_cyaft&s_cid=con_FURL_faults

If the crackling still present I'd badger BT more than Sky as this sounds more of a line fault.

Oh If you need a new ADSL filter, You cover the postage and I'll mail you one free (PM me if you need)

I tried that website the other day but im using the line so i couldnt check it :/ ill try it at school.

Ive tried numerous ADSL filters and they all did the same.

I think that sky have put a cap on me for downloading torrents or something because it seems strange to be 384 kbs exactly. :/

What fair usage limits?EVen then in their TOS it says "We do not cap" they email you asking you to calm down.

BT Say unlimited with a 40gb cap (they make no attempts to hide it) Where as sky it is truly unlimited.

As for VM they traffic shape so much it makes their service unusable at times.

Which option is this? I'm on Option 3 Unlimited* and there is NO mention of a cap using numbers, Im pretty sure we downloaded over 40GB last month due to Linux, Windows 7, and a couple of HUGE Steam games added to that the 1.5GB we generally use a day.
