Not too bothered about what the cause is but I think it should be a UK one really - no point trying to save the world when we have our own problems, and also by sorting ourselves out we'd be better equipped in the future to help everyone else. Homeless charities are always good for Christmas, very in the spirit of things

I think Help for Heroes is the best choice (Military). I mean I know that Cancer Research does a lot - however these people die for our country, therefore SURELY they have to come first.
And poverty. The UK has it's own problems.

I really dont think it should be medical/cancer, it gets it like EVERY year, they already gets tens of millions of donations each year. There are alot more needy causes out there like homeless, children etc. Although cancer does need to be cured, there are alot of other people our money could help immediately.
-:Undertaker:-
07-11-2009, 03:29 PM
I have picked the elderly, they are forgotton every year and its really sad the way many have their care homes closed, who have no family to rely on and some of the stories that come about about what is happening to many of them. On the rest i'd back probably the children then the military although I disagree with the wars we are in at the moment, and I think the way they have been treated is disgusting by this government.
The old and the military should be looked after by our government, its sickening. I'm confused as to why people would put animals before humans here, but its down to personal choice I guess as i'm sure that if one of my family members had cancer i'd most likely vote for Medical Research.

Agreed.
And it's FACT most of Cancer Research UK's money goes to paying staff.
I think we should give it to either Help for Heroes or a charity for elderly, children or atleast something that might actually help people NOW.
I picked hospitals because it kind of covers a lot of things, I didn't see help for the heroes or I would of voted that! :( I don't think it should go to hunger, them idiots in africa have been getting so much money from us and they are still sitting their crying starving to death. WE ALL STARTED OUT WITH NOTHING! So what if africa is a hot country, loads of other boiling hot countrys have managed to move on. I went to jamaica once (same as africa and all the others really) and we was advised NOT to leave the hotel because of all them Neanderthal poor lazy *******s. They just won't work in their country which is why it's still how it is. All they want to do when they move to England/USA is smoke weed and rap (not all of them, some are nice hard working people and I am not being racist towards them - race is the colour of our skin and I speak nothing of that). So vote for our people fighting for us english people, our country.

Stop shooting people down for their beliefs. If they feel strongly about an issue or the issue affects them personally in some way they have every right to vote for that type of charity.
I voted for medical research, if that wins the vote there should be a variety of charities to choose from since that's a bit of a broad subject!

I am not shooting down people for their beliefs Alex.
However I do believe that if medical research get's it then the chances are it will be "Habbox is pleased to support Cancer Research UK this Christmas. We decided this was a good charity as THIS Christmas they will not help one person have a better day. Unlike virtually every other charity in the world! Merry Christmas losers."
I am purely supporting my beliefs, that donating to a charity for Christmas and then giving it to a Chairty that is RESEARCHING (which is currently not HELPING) is mad.
EDIT: Might I also point out that as an example. If it wasn't for heroes that have died in the passed - like people who fought in WWII - then we may not be alive. And one of the young people that died in previous wars, or became mentally disabled may have been the person to find a cure to cancer.
On another note though, perhaps to solve the problem of me perhaps we SPLIT all funds so the two most popular chosen ones get half each?
EDIT2: Just realised something. I didn't notice Medical RESEARCH. That's the one I disaproove of, as I think that one will be Cancer Research. But the other one couldn't be that :D
Sorry :D
I think people are probably getting confused with the medical research and the medical support options here ;).

And it's FACT most of Cancer Research UK's money goes to paying staff. It's quite obvious really though, top scientists aren't going to work for free so it's the only way to find a cure for cancer. To pay the top scientists to research it. Just because they're at the top of their professional doesn't mean they should do it for free.
I've gone for Military, something like the royal british legion or help the heroes. Although I wouldn't mind if it went to something like the RNLI, Air Ambulance or homeless people.

Wait, what? Not really, he's from New Zealand. It's obvious that Africa is worse off in every way than the UK, so what he's saying is making sense. I'm not saying every kid in Britain is well off, but they're not starving or dying of diseases in enormous numbers that's for sure.

No but what he said was "I am not wanting to give my money to the British as I am not from there." But he then says "I will happily give it to Africa."
And saying African kids are worse off in everyway is ridiculous. I have been on trips to Africa to decorate a school and on the whole the kids were so much more together. Virtually everyone would play with each other - how often does that happen in England?
Communities in Africa are much better.
Socially yes, but economically not so much. We are talking about what people NEED for life, not what they can live without. You won't die if another kid won't play with you. However, you will if you do not get enough food, water, or Malaria tablets etc. This is the crucial point.
To say that the UK is worse of than Africa is stupid. The UK is an MEDC (more economically developed country) not an LEDC. I personally have trecked across Africa and I can say many children have close to no infrastructure often studying in poorly constructed mud huts, now I don't think that is better off than the UK at all. However, it is your choice to pick to who you want to donate as for me, it will be a tough choice as they're all good causes.

Wait? Could you QUOTE me when I said it was worse off? Can you? No.
Also if you have trekked the continent you would know Africa is a continent of two halves.
And Africa is not a Less Economically Developed Country :P
A large bulk of it yes, the Sub-Saharan Africa part. The only thing I would say and yes I cannot quote you as you didn't directly say it. However, it is the fact that they are worse of economically, which I feel is worse than being worse off in the social sphere of things, though I don't reject your point that they're not worse off in every way.
But yet again as I said the economics are 100 times worse in Africa than in the UK. Socially it is better.

Well if we are going by who is worse of the than UK we might aswell donate the money to Japan!
I am not saying the money SHOULDN'T go to Africa I am just saying that it was hypocritical to say that he/she did not want it to go to England as he/she lived in New Zealand, but to then go and say he/she is happy to give it to any other country :D

That's how life goes.
Humans, as of now, are the most important species on the planet, you can't argue - it's a fact. I'm not saying I want animals to just die, I love animals, i'm just saying that I would personally put humans ahead of animals. I mean seriously, which death would you be most bothered about, your friend or your pet?

First off congratulations on calling me an idiot on a subject something I'm right about. Secondly it's not about not being as smart, it's the fact that animals literally CANNOT process pain the way we do - we understand it and are affected mentally as well as physically, whereas animals can only react to instincts and only show alarm because as living things they have a survival instinct. Take a cat to the vet for a jab and it'll try getting away and scratch about because it feels pain, but it doesn't know that it's doing it any good and in 2 minutes when the pain's gone it acts like nothing ever happened

No I truly believe that - if we don't have any way of understanding that we're being disadvantaged then it can't really be a disadvantage. It's difficult to think of an example because obviously if I came up with one then it'd be something we do understand, us being a sentient race. The only thing I can think of that might possibly cover it is if we're all an experiment of some divine creator (or group of creators) and they control us entirely, even down to me typing this right now. I don't know about it and there's no way I can understand it entirely so if that were the case it wouldn't be a problem

WHICH AINT FAIRAlthough that is true, Hospitals are not a charity and they are not ran by volunteers. They are simply doing their job and as tax payers we contribute to the cost of hospitals, building them, buying equipment, paying for staff etc. Of course it's always good manners to be polite to everyone, particularly if they've helped you. However I don't think it's criminal to not say thank you.
