Ok, I'm posting this because today we did a bit modern music, we did Cheryl Cole - Fight for this love, and a lot of people enjoyed the lesson, do you think we should do more modern music is music lessons. I for one think we should as it would get more people involved in music and music studies, who agrees with me.

I know somebody who, for their GCSE coursework, made a breakbeat track lol and also did a load of jungle drumming

It is great to learn different variety's of music.

When I did music back in the day all we learnt was like the Jurassic Park theme tune and ******** like that. We never learnt anything to do with music, just songs to play on the keyboard. Total waste of time

I know you do them for GCSEs but not a lot of people get interested in them enough to get into them, we did a reasonable song, but we didn't really focus that much on the song. So that was my whole take on the matter. :D

People shouldn't really take GCSE music if they were not interested in music in the FIRST place.

In music in my school we never do new music, nothing on new music on the junior cert course. It doesnt bother me too much though.

That lesson would be my worst nightmare, I don't even know what that song sounds like but the fact you said Cheryl Cole puts me off it straight away as I've heard she does R 'n' B.
But, I think a mix of old and new is needed. If you want to become a serious musician, you need to know the history to it so you know where things come from.
This question can be seen in a number of ways, as 'music' has different genres. I think MORE genres are needed from the ages. For if you talk about modern music, I can talk about some recently released classic genred song, even though most people will argue classical music is not important in this age, I think there is still a fan base for it.
Hence, as I echoed earlier- more musical genres would be good through different centuries etc.

I think what Grig said just about sums everything up,
